Some travel agents in Australia are telling their customers, that a visa is not required to enter Brazil. This is incorrect, Australian's need a visa for Brazil, even if its only a day trip to Iguazu Falls.

We recently went through the process of getting our Brazilian visa in Argentina. We used the on-line form:

http://www.conbrasil.org.ar/CONSBRASIL/visas_otros01engl.asp

Then tried to get it processed via the Brazilian embassy in Buenos Aires. We anticipated it may take a few days, we were wrong. The waiting period to submit the form in BA was 2 weeks and Im sorry to say they were rude and difficult to deal with.

My advice would be to only go via this embassy if you have a lot of time and ability to access all the required documentation such as bank balance, travel details, copies of credit cards, employment history etc.

We ended up having to fly to Iguazu as we had heard that it was much easier at the Brazilian consulate there. It was! We submitted our paperwork at 8am and picked up our passports the same day. We paid $147 pesos (you have to pay exact money) for a 90 day multi entry visa, and they were very nice and easy to deal with.

A 90 day multi-entry visa? I've heard many reports of US passport holders getting just a 30 day visa in Iguacu. Perhaps conditions have changed or are different for other passport holders, but travellers should have an idea of what might happen (esp if they are planning to spend more time than a month in BRazil).

Yes, we definately have a 90 day multi entry visa. Its a good point that you make about US citizens, I am unsure if US citizens will be able to get the same.

This is very helpful - thanks!! I'm looking to head to Brasil next week (very last min trip) so do not have enough time to get visa in Sydney. We're going to try our luck in Iguazu when we arrive there next week. Please can you tell me what supportin documents you had to submit?

hi there,

we had the following documents, but we had them ready for the buenos aires office (as we had heard they were really strict), the guy in iguazu barely looked at what we provided!!

-passport photo

-print off of the filled in application form

-bank statements

-return airfare from brazil

-photocopy of credit cards

-proof of accommodation

you need to have the exact money as well, they wouldnt accept a cent more or less!!

goodluck!!!!
