Single female traveling to Brazil for 2 weeks

Hi there,

I am new in this forum and came across valuable info. Was wondering whether are there any solo travelers like me traveling to Rio on Jan 17th to Jan 29th??

Also, is it better to rent an apartment or a youth hostel? I managed to get a decent rate for an apartment but hostel would be nice too as I would find other travelers like myself.

Boa noite Zairina!

How lovely! Just think this time next week you'll be lounging on gorgeous beaches, along with a sea of humanity from the four corners, all taking in the splendor that is Rio. Of course the real beauty is that while you may be solo, you're never truly alone with the spirited and sociable Cariocas all around you.

I personally think apartments are better, particularly if the price is reasonable. Having said that, I agree there is an added benefit to socializing amongst your peers while on holiday. Perhaps one of the many social-networking sites may be of benefit to you, as you can reach out to similarly-situated travelers before you arrive.

Zairina--

If you still have the option of staying in a hostel, I (another female who often travels in Brazil solo)think you may be correct in thinking that you might find that less isolating than being alone in an apartment. It would be an easy and sure way to have company, and perhaps added security, while you travel about the city at this frantic Carnaval time. I hope you enjoy your trip.

Hello people,

BFG is correct, quoting Couchsurfing as an option to meet other travellers. We are always doing things around the city, from walking tours to all night long parties (I´m still recovering from the busy new years week we did).

Any questions on the group, feel free to ask!

happy travels!

Thanks everyone for their recommendations! I just signed up for couch surfing :) So, looks like I am going ahead with the apartment rental.

I am also planning to go to Iguazu Falls. From what I read, the affordable way to do it is by bus. I search for flights and one way to Foz de Iguazu is about $250 (Gol) Is there any other airlines that possible operate and cheaper than this?

$250 one-way from Rio to Iguacu is not a bad price considering the 20-24 hour bus ride (the leito seats (i.e. flat) are okay, but still not great). The other airlines in Brasil include TAM, Varig, and VASP, so you could check their websites or go to www.farecast.com for more info.

Good luck, you'll have a great time.
