Help....trying to get Argentine Pesos prior to leaving...

Trying to get some Argentine pesos before we leave the US. Some banks seem not to be carrying them. (we were just there in Feb and had no problems.) Any recommendations? Will taxi drivers, etc take US dollars? We will be in Mendoza, Bariloche, and BA. I did find a bank locally but the rate was horrible. Any tips on traveling to Argentina and what to use ((USD? Pesos? Credit Cards?) Thanks!

Do not purchase pesos outside of Argentina. The rates are horrible. Wait until you arrive then use either the ATM or the exchange at Banco de la Nacion. You will receive the official rate. Also bring Dollars in case you can receive A higher exchange rate at stores, etc

Thanks R.... Where is Banco de La Nacion located? Do you think our transfer service in Mendoza would take USD?

One can normally find at least one ATM in any major airport

EZE has both Banco de la Nacion location at EZE along with ATM machine. The bank is located just prior to the final customs bag check while the ATM is to the left as you exit customs/immigration.

Do take more USD than you normally would as many shops and restaurants now take them and give you a much better rate. You will still need pesos for taxis and places that aren't accepting USD.

Make sure that you only get the amount of pesos that you need. You can no longer exchange them for dollars when you leave the country.

The only place I found that was not giving good rates for USD was in Calafate. Restaurants were quoting below official rate, so we either used pesos or credit cards there.

I've read on TA forum about a cash pick up service with locations worldwide including BA - WWW.XOOMS.COM that provides cash transfer at fair rates. Anyone with experience care to post their experience?
