Have to go through immigration with a 22 hr layover?

Hey all,

Getting from Asuncion, Paraguay to Miami, I have a 22 hr layover in Buenos Aires (EZE). My question is: With that long of a layover, will I have to go through Argentine Immigrations?

Most people would probably go into the city for that long of a layover, but I think I'm going to just wait it out in the airport. So, I'm not actually entering the country, but will I still have to go through immigration? Also, I will have to retrieved my checked bag, so I have that to deal with too.

Any ideas? Anyone been in a situation like this?

Thanks!

Argentina does allow for transit passengers who are continuing on with their flights as long as they complete the process within 12 hours with documentation of the continuing flight. This is stated in the official government brochure.

Hopefully you are traveling on a continuation ticket with allows your checked baggage to continue to it's final destination without being claimed in Buenos Aires then having to be checked in again. If you are using two separate airlines then ask them now if they have reciprocal luggage transfer procedures.

See if your boarding passes can be issued at your origin of departure for all flights.

The best means of avoiding Argentina is if you can remain in the transit area with your boarding passes and not go through immigration.

If for any reason this is not possible then be sure to take your flight ticket documentation to immigration and ask for transit status. You'll collect your luggage;check it in again, then go back through exit immigration(immigration should stamp in your passport a so many hour visa transit stay.
