Taxi in Singapore

Hi all,

I hope you can answer my questions

1. Do we have to agree to the price before the journey or is it a metered taxi?

2. Is there a good taxi firm you could recommend?

3. How longwuld it take from Changi to Chinatown on average? (no hold up by bad traffic)

Taxis are all metered so no bargaining is necessary. Go for a regular taxi instead of a limousine taxi (black or white colour) if you are price-sensitive.

The journey time between the airport and Chinatown is around 30mins.

Q1 answer: : all taxis in Singapore are metered, an offense not to use the meter.

Q2: any taxis at the taxi waiting bays are alright, avoid the limo cab, they are more costly to take.

Q3: use this this link https:/…

key in your start point and end point and the approximate time you are likely to board the cab.

This calculator is only a guide, does not take in account of the traffic condition, and we have no way to

predict it as well

Download “grab” app.

It’s like Uber.

Travel time is around 20mins +/-, depending on traffic condition.

To use Grab, you need a local SIM card which I doubt Op will buy for such a short time.

Baz, pls start your own thread in future. Basically all hotels in the downtown are about 30mins from the airport and S$20-30 depending on the time you take the taxi.

The hotels we’re staying in give us the use of a free phone, won’t the grab app be on there?

Download Grab app that is equivalent to Uber.

A lot of cars is available anytime.

Very convenient as you know the price at the departure

the grab app requires you to login, but I have seen terminals are hotels and some attractions for you to make a Grab booking.

does grab require a local SIM card? I’ve used Grab and Uber overseas with my account (which has my SG number) without issues, so I think you do not need a local number. But I already had my accounts set up here, so maybe that is the difference.
