Singapore's growth to a sophisticated city for the rich

An interesting article for those who never knew this side of Singapore:

Enjoy Singapore - she has evolved into a sophisticated international city - lots to see and do!

RIDICULOUS article!! 26K for a cocktail!!??

So many people in SIngapore don't even make that kind of money in a year.

"Sophisticated" is also relative. Many are noveau riche with no sophistication. Money cannot buy class.

Some food for thoughts yeah - well a mix of the new rich and the already rich. =) And those pretending to be there and trying to keep up!

But reading this article truly shows how much we have evolved - good or bad well is relative - but at least we are no longer stereotyped as a boring nations state!

Agree with Jade about the tone of the article. First the WSJ says Singapore is "uptight and straitlaced" and then it says its becoming unsustainably frivolous, like make up your mind! WSJ has had an axe to grind with SG ever since the libel battles in the 80s. Having said that, this is part of the broader issues we are all grappling with in the recent debates about population growth. In the relentless push for growth both economically and population size-wise, it is inevitable that some undesirables will end up here, it's just this time round the undesirables happen to be of the gaudy new money variety. The rest of us in the real world will just have to do our best not to let our way of life drown under all that materialism....

I seriously doubt any aeronautical engineer in their right mind would allow installing a swimming pool in an airliner. If the plane encounters turbulence all that water will be sloshing and splashing all over.
