Diving from Mactan or Lapu Lapu

Hi,

We go for 4 days diving, we arrive at Cebu airport and do not want to drive for hours then.

So we thought of staying at Mactan or Lapu Lapu and do diving trips from there.

We are with 4 children who snorkel, but don t dive.

We like to stay in good hotels but not too big ones, with a nice personal approach.

Is june a good time to go diving there ?

Where is the best area , hotel to stay for good diving trips?

Which are the good diving areas where are great fishes and maybe walls ?

How far are these diving places from the piers ?

Thanks for your help !

Greets

This is part of their website that shows the different island options off Mactan: Talima, Hilutungan, Pandanon, and Nalusuan, are the closest. My personal choice is Hilutungan.

All resorts offer diving trips. But I suggest to avail of services from outside the resort as it is cheaper. Maybe you can arrange for pick up services at your hotel/resort.

Not sure if it is of interest to you but Islandsbanca, shown above, is part of a group of "islands" businesses.

They also have budget accommodation. One of their hotels is in Lapu Lapu city, not far from the airport. It is called Islands Stay.

It would make everything very convenient.

olango island, part of the municipality of lapu-lapu, offers diving & snorkelling. it is a bird sanctuary but it is the wrong time of year to see the migratory birds

cabilao island is nearby & is a good place for both diving & snorkelling. good walls & plenty of fishes. it is part of the neighbouring province of bohol

bohol (tagbilaran) is 2 hours by ferry from cebu city. balicasag island/marine sanctuary is a very popular diving & snorkelling destination. it also features walls, many fish species, and turtles, among other attractions. there is a lot of accommodation & dive operators based around alona beach, panglao island, bohol, who offer trips to balicasag

i found the conditions & visibility in this region to be good in the june that i dived there

@ 1650

Unfortunately June is the onset of the typhoon season, so there is a possibility of bad weather. However, during monsoons, we usually have a few days of heavy rains alternating with a few sunny days .

For a place with both first class snorkeling AND diving, I highly recommend Nalusuan island. It is 45 minutes off Cebu, a popular day tripper destination, has cottages on stilts right above the water so you can see starfish from your room, and a fantastic worth. They have a dive shop, plus some excellent coral.

In Cebu city itself, there there is no snorkellign of value, really.

I would recommend Panglao / Balicasag if you are willing to travel.

I second MH's suggestion.

One good thing in Balicasag is that the dives are beach dives so there is no time wasted in boats - and of course, since it is the only dive shop on the island, you get exclusive attention of all the dive stafff :)

Hi all22tec, I just happened to come across your hesitation in recommending our services. When you're in Cebu or Mactan, come try us! Guests can also individually contact the reviewers to make sure that all reviews are legit. We are a small company. As the owner, I do get involved. Thus, our positive reviews.
