Please help! 10 days in Palawan

I'm looking at spending around 10 days in Palawan in mid November for our honeymoon and am needing some suggestions as to an itinerary.

So far I've been looking at flying from Manila to PP and spending a few days there, do a day trip to the under ground river and then finish off in El Nido.

We're not looking to travel too much as we're wanting to relax but we're open to all suggestions.

What can you suggest?

I would suggest that you go to El Nido after your UR tour. Do it asap. From El Nido, book a tour with Tao Expedition to Coron.

Never tour with them but from the pictures, it should be a great trip.

You could do that, or alternatively fly with AirPhils Express (book online) from PP to Busuanga, Coron and enjoy a few days in Coron in lieu of El Nido. You could then return by air to Manila.

I have been to both PP and Coron but not to El Nido so others wil be able to advise on whether El Nido is preferable to Coron. I stayed off Coron at Chindonan resort which was fabulous: A$125 per day half board and great snorkelling.

10 days means you can have four days in the first and three or four in the second destination, allowing the recommended night in Manila before returning home.

www.asiatravel.com has an excellent range of Manila and Makati hotels. Look up its '5 star Crazy Rate' for Manila which at present is The Manila Hotel, so others inform us on TA, for A$110 a night or so including breakfast and taxes. That's an excellent price.

Few days ago we did a great jungletrekking to the hidden waterfall of Caramay. We are also honeymoners , an we love this trip so much.

The fall is recently discovered in a small vally in the jungle, so its not yet described in any travelguide. By the way Caramay is almost in the middle between Puerto P and El Nido. The resort in Caramay arranged a guide for us , to guide us to this hidden fall. The water is very refreshing after the jungletrekking, and at the feet of the fall is a natural formed swimmingpool. Bring your own food and drinks because you can,t buy anything in the jungle.

Coran and PP/El Nido, though both in Palawan are really different destination. If you choose both, you are choosing to take two trips.

PP/El Nido

1. Puerto is a small town you could walk around in three hours. Arrive and quickly go to your hotel by tricycle, you do not need taxis. There are more than 20 good restaurant to choose from in town. The first afternoon, go to the butterfly farm or the zipline for more excitement. You can also tour the capital building which has an interesting design and a tourist office. The decorations at the wharf also make for good pictures. There is a pearl shop two block from the capital (ask anyone on the street where it is) which is the most fantastic place to buy gifts for friends (you can spend hours there).

2. Arrange with your hotel or a tour company for a trip to the underground river for the next day. The underground river is a full day activity. The tour will do everything, just have fun. Lunch is included. It use to be only P1350 PAX, but with all the notoriety of becoming a world wonder, I do not know the new price.

3. Arrange a tour or go by rented motor cycle (P500/day) 12 kilometers east of Puerto Princesa City is Sta. Lourdes wharf and rent a pump boat (fan boat) and island hop Hondo Bay. It is usally P500/island, for as many fit on your boat. Star Fish Island and Snake Island are the most famous.

4. Wake up early and go to bus station (just an open field 5km out of town) by tricycle. Hop in the waiting van P550 PAX for a nice 5hour trip to El Nido. Walk to the tiny village of El Nido from the van station or take a P30 tricycle. Stay at the beautiful Entalula Hotel for only P1000/night ($25) on the beach with the most beautiful view in all the Philippine before you. Walk the beach in front of your hotel and wade in the ocean if you can not wait till the next day. Go to the outdoor "Sands" restaurant for a great meal, near the hotel.

5. Start this day a 9AM till 4PM with the tour A island hopping & snorkeling P600 Pax. This is the best tour of your week. It includes a fresh crab, chicken and fruit lunch cooked by the boatman. Snorkels cost P100 to rent.

6. Take tour B, worst tour

7. Take tour C, too much open water travel but nice

8. Take tour D, second best tour

9. Wake up early and take a van back to Puerto. Complete the activities you could not finish on the first day.

10. Fly back to Mnl.

If you perfer pure luxury just go to the Apulit Island Resort at Taytay just before El Nido for the whole time.
