From El Nido we went to Cacnipa island where we stayed for a few days. It was amazing and the crown jewel of our Palawan trip. highly recommended (and yes - I shall return!)
How to reach -
Difficult. We took a private boat from El Nido to Cacnipa. Bad idea. Our boat engine stalled thrice, we got caught in heavy rains where we could see nothing, and the last one hour was "bumpy" seas!
Time taken = 6 hours
Cost = 4500 pesos
Suggested way to reach -
It is far better to go to Port Barton and take a boat from there. Unfortunately the road to Port Barton is among the worst in Philippines!
The resort -
Cacnipa island has just one resort - Coconut garden.
It was beautiful, had running electricity for 3 hours in the evening, but solar power the rest of the time so we were not at all inconvenienced. There was no TV etc, but it never felt odd. The beach is very beautiful. The cottages are native style and so cool. Food was good (at least 30 items to choose from - Filipino and Continental), Snorkelling off the beach was very good - better than what we saw in El Nido. In the morning, monkeys would sit on the trees next to our cottage.
What to do....
Snorkel off the house reefs next to the island
Relax on the beach
Play table tennis / checkers / ball on the beach
Play with the house monkey
Stare at the water
Read books (they have a great library)
Island hopping (but we did not do this - I hear from fellow travellers it is great)
We took a boat from the resort to Port Barton (45 minutes, 500 pesos, easy to arrange) - thence we took a bus to PP (ardous!)
Is it worth it?
Suggested time to spend?
At least 2 days (but keep a additional day to travel to and a day to travel from)
Ideally 4-5 days
