Motorbike around Palawan

I like motorbike traveling so just wonder if someone can advise on:

1. Place to rent motorbike in Puerto Princesa and rate

2. How strict is traffic law enforced there? I do not have an international driving license.

Phonpho, Palawan is excellent for motorcycling, especially when you leave the concrete roads.

Plenty of motorcycles to hire on Rizal Avenue (close to Airport), I will check the cost and come back to you.

You may use a foreign driving licence for 90 days from arrival - see here

Current prices for motorcycle hire in Puerto Princesa , P800 to P1000 (XR200/KLX150).. XRM available and costs less.

The hiring system here means you have to allow the hiring company to hold your passport until you return the motorcycle in good condition.

(Yes, I know this is not a perfect arrangement, but that's the way it works!)

Around Southeast Asia it is a common occurence for rentals to hold your passport. Esp for motorbikes. Blame other travellers who when given a consideration would end up not paying!

If motorbike rental holds your passport, how do you check in at hostel?

Get a photocopy of your passport. Hostel usually just wants a copy of it for various reasons but mainly as a protection to you and for them as well.

In lieu of passports you can leave a valid ID to rentals. Again it is just a protection for them.

I am planning for a motorbike trip on Palawan as well. I am thinking of renting a Honda XRM 125 and head to El Nido and back. My concern is, what do I do if the bike breaks down?

Well, what do you do when you have concern that plane may crash? :-) Avoid a flight?

Check motorbike condition and take with less run on odometer before rent it. Philippians are mostly friendly you won't die on road.
