hi, i have intentions to stay in plantation bay for 4 days. i desperately need help on some issues.

1. from plantation bay to the nearest (n worthy) shopping mall, takes how long? Transportation ? by hotel or is there avaliable taxis?

2. where to book tours like fort san perto etc cebu city tours? is there any recommended non-resort vendors that do such tours? i understand the tour booked at plantation bay are expensive.

3. colonial town of Carcar. is it worth the visit? how many hours should be designated here? and what is there here?

4. i am a NON diver, NON adventure seeker. just a tour tour see see look look tourist. where else in cebu wil u recommend me to?

appreciate all help and with thanks again ,

You can get the contact numbers of rentacar companies at the arrival area. For a van, rent is 1,650pesos for the first 3hours and 400pesos/hr thereafter. You can negotiate for a 10%discount of the total bill. To see the attractions like fort San Pedro, Casa Gorordo, Basilica de Sto Nino, Magellan's cross, Taoist temple, Heritage of Cebu, Lapu-lapu Monument and Magellans Marker will take approx 5hours.

Go to Olango Island for bird watching, just time your visit during high tide.

Hello Nicole

I have never stayed at Plantation Bay and never wanted to but here are my thoughts on each of your 4 questions:

1. The nearest worthy shopping mall is Gaisano in Lapu Lapu City. It will take you 20 minutes or so to drive there. There will be taxis available in Lapu Lapu city but there will not necessarily be taxis hanging out at the resort.

2. If you are happy doing a tour in a taxi, you can use my regular driver, Danny Noy (+639193753071). For touring around Cebu City and Mactan Island, he charges P250 per hour (about usd $5) or for an even better hourly rate, make a deal for 8 or 10 hours. I used to run a Cebu City tour last year and it would take 8 hours including lunch. The places I suggest you see on a tour are:

- Casa Gorordo (historic home set up as it would have been in late 19th century)

- Pier area

- Fort San Pedro and museum

- City Hall

- Magellan's Cross

- Sto Nino Basillica and museum

- Historic Carbon market where you will also see Calesas (horse drawn carriages)

- Fuente Osmena

- Capitol Building

- Taoist Temple

- The Top, a lookout overlooking Talisay City, Cebu City, Mandaue City, Mactan Island and on a clear day Bohol and Leyte.

- Waterfront Hotel in Lahug which has a Casino and 2 duty free shops as well as the US consulate

- Guitar factories on Mactan Island where you will see guitars and other instruments being made

- Lapu Lapu shrine

3. I have been through Carcar many times and it did not impress me as a place that needed exploration.

4. Well you asked :)

I recommend you stay in Cebu City instead of Mactan Island as you will be closer to all the things you want to do! If you want to stay in quality accommodation, stay at the Waterfront Hotel in Lahug.

- Spend time in SM Mall

- Spend time in Ayala Mall. Try the nearby Cafe Havana at night if you are into Latino Music

- Spend time at an expat hangout like the Sandtrap:

http://www.sandtrap.biz/index.html

- Take part in some expat activities such as ten pin bowling every Wednesday at Gaisano Country Mall bowling centre or take part in a Hash House Harriers run, every Saturday. You can walk too. The run is followed by social activities

- You could go on a day tour to Kawasan Falls near Moalboal. Danny Noy can arrange that for you.

- Go to Bohol. It can be done as a day trip but I recommend you spend a few days there. If you want to do it as a day trip, go on the first fast ferry in the morning and come back on the last fast ferry at night. There will be plenty of people waiting to take you on a tour of Bohol when you arrive at the pier in Tagbilaran.

I hope this helps!
