ive been to phills 2x.. 1st time feb-march 2010 i was there for 30 days and never bothered about a visa.. no-one bothered to question this when i was departing.. so it was all good.. now for my next trip i will be there for 60-90 days so i guess i better sort out a visa this time.. should i contact the embassy in UK prior to leaving.. or get a VOA for i think its 21 days then can be extended once there.. but i think i read somewhere thats a more expensive option.. any info would be appreciated..

If you are near the Philippine embassy/consulate there in Great Britain I suggest that you get your visa there. There are a number of cities/provinces in the Philippines where can you get a visa so it really depends where are you staying before your 21 days VOA expires. If you try to get a visa extension in Manila be prepared to waste at least 1 whole day.

Bureau of Immigration have sorted out visa applications. I took a friend there last July and we were in Immigration for 45mins - and that is typical now.

Visa is 21 days on entry - can be extended to 59 days only. Subsequent renewals are 59 days.

Can I just ask please - is it a requirement to obtain a visa for a normal holiday of a couple of weeks or so?

What you get on arrival is not a visa, it is a visa waiver for 21 days. If you want to stay longer than 21 days, you can arrange a visa waiver extension of 38 days at a cost of P3030. This can be done at any office of the Bureau of immigration. See here for offices near where you will be travelling

http://www.immigration.gov.ph/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=128&Itemid=72

The office in Ozamiz City is here

Bureau of Immigration Ozamiz Field Office

3rd Floor Rizal cor. Valconcha St.,

7200 Ozamiz City

Manuelito Kaamino - Alien Control Officer

Tel. # (088) 521-1581

You can arrange a visa in advance.

Here is the Philippines Embassy website, visa section

http://philembassy-uk.org/consular_VISA.html

It gives details on how to apply and shows the cost as £22

If you want to stay longer than 59 days, you can keep extending until you have been in the Philippines for 2 years.

The extension from 59 days to 4 months is the most expensive. It costs P4830 for the extension plus usd$50 for an ACR-I card plus P500 express lane fee for the ACR-I card.

Next extension from 4 to 6 months is P2830.
