Tokyo Hotel - tight budget

Hi everyone my husband and I are going to Japan in June and this is our first trip so I am really unsure where we should stay. I am thinking Shinjuku or Shibuya for convenience but I am open to suggestions.

We will have 4 nights in Tokyo and our budget is $90 aud per night if possible. We won't spend a lot of time in the room so we aren't fussy as long as the location is within reasonable distance to public transport.

I would love to see your suggestions and thanks in advance!

Thanks for your reply but I checked them out and it was over $90 per night for a double room.

Try - http://travel.rakuten.co.jp/en/

BTW - most hotels in Japan do not allow bookings more than 3 months in advance. The rate you are seeing might be the full price rack rate.

The Toyoko Inns are not much over 90 -one I looked at (Kanda) had economy doubles for about Y7980 which I believe is about $95, and that includes tax. You get free breakfast as well, and if you join their International Members club you could get 30% off Sunday and 20% off Monday.

Check the rates for the two Toyoko Inn locations in Ikebukuro. I think one of those hotels recently lowered its rates. And do keep in mind that rates include a free breakfast.

You might be looking at semi-double rooms for 8000 or less .

Shinjuku: Asuka(Annex, crappy rooms), Hotel Wing, Washington, New City, Shirakawago, Rose Garden, Sun Members

Shibuya: None

Expedia.com.au sometimes have 50% off hotel rooms but their deals only go for 72 hours, keep an eye out for those :) I was able to get a room at Shinjuku Prince for $89 AUD a night (single though and service tax no included yet)

Or rakuten.com has some great deals but I find hotel at Shinjuku or Shibuya often cost over $90 AUD a night (around 7300 Yens)

The Comfort Hotel in Kyoto is inexpensive, and rates include breakfast. It's about a 20-minute walk from the main train station.
