Depending on what you want to see and how long you want to linger at each place, the attractions in Central Java can be covered in one week. Depart S'pore arriving Yogya at 1230pm. Head straight to Prambanan by public bus, spend 2 or 3 hours there (main site) and then on to Solo by public bus. Tour Solo attractions in the morning riding pillion on motorbike. Head for Selo by public bus (several changes) and on motorbike to New Selo village where you can climb Mt Merapi starting at 1am. Hitch a pay ride to Borobudur on mini-bus that had taken tourists to Selo or hire one from homestay. Enter Borobudur at 6am, spend 3 to 4 hours including two temples outside. Head for Dieng after lunch. If going by public buses, several changes and waiting time. Otherwise, join a group and it takes 2 hours to reach Dieng. Tour Dieng Plateau attractions riding pillion or walk or cycle. From Dieng to Yogya, hitch returning tourist mini-bus or go by public transport. For Yogya attractions, use becak but bargain hard. Yogya to airport takes 20 mins from Malioboro by bike or taxi. Airport service charge of IDR100,000. Homestay or losmen averages IDR70,000. Entrance fee Prambanan (110,000), Borobudur (120,000). Weather this November, sunny to fine in morning and pouring to drizzling in afternoon. Evening cool, wet on ground but OK. Budget around USD200 in all which includes decent meals and a few bottles of Bintang beer!
