suggest an itenerary for Jogja

Am traveling to Jogjakarta will be arriving on a weekday at Jogja at 5pm on Monday or Tue staying 3 nights and leaving Wed or Thursday at 4pm (3 nights)

could you suggest a 2 or 3 day itenerary that includes Borobodur Pramban royal palace good museums and the arts/crafts, shopping, markets a view of Mount Merapi etc etc....(we dont actually want to go to Mt Merapi but would like to see it from a distance at least)

I am traveling with a couple of 80 year olds so it should be easy-ish and I will go shopping when they are resting...:))

Also could you suggest any good places to source javanese arts and crafts? Not interested in designer malls we prefer good quality local arts and crafts....

Also can we do in 2 nights instead of 3? Not sure how many nights yet.

Also any suggestions on booking a car/English speaking driver for the day? Cost? The hotels are probably very expensive to book thru

Thanks so much

Hi Dika...

if you travelling with a couple of 80 years old its better that you rent or join a tour package in yogyakarta for 3 nights its better so you dont have to be hurry in every places that you going to visit.remember you got a couple of 80 years old join this tour.

normal tour program for one day tour is to visit 2 places but remember choose borobudur temple or prambanan temple in the morning or in the afternoon around 3 - 4 in the afternoon so its not to hot for walking around.or in the morning before 10.00

for sultan palace you can do it before 13.00 normal time to visit the sultan palace its about 100 minute.

every tourism places in yogyakarta they have english speaking guide and for this you have to paid extra beside the enterances tickets, and if you join a tour package in yogyakarta normally the package its just only for transportation and enterances tickets also guide for the places that you going to visit its not include.

if your arrival time its at 5 in the afternoon better that you start your tour in yogyakarta in the next morning. so 3 nights will be enough for yogyakarta to see the main highlights.

Arrive 5pm

Check-in Hotel

Dinner

First Day

Early am to Borobudur

You will see Merapi during drive to Borobudur and from Borobudur. Climbing to top of Borobudur may be tiring for some as many steep stairs.

Choose also to visit Mendut Temple, Pawon Temples (small and easy to visit) and local market as desired.

Lunch

Return to hotel in Yogya

PM

Rest and/or shopping

Dinner and shopping

Second Day

AM

Visit Yogya sites

Hotel check-out

Lunch

PM

Visit Prambanam

Depart directly to airport

Optional third day would allow resting during pm of second day. AM could be used for rest or more shopping with visit to Prambanan in pm before departure.

Since your time is short I would advise caution about hiring a bargain driver. They may waste your time taking you to restaurants and shops which are not good so they can receive commissions. Ask your hotel for their rate and also check the car rental agencies who can provide a driver for a car you rent. This way you get a car in good condition with AC and make sure it is fully insured to protect you from third party claims.
