Jakarta City Tour bus

Hi,

I just want to share my recent experience with the newly launched Jakarta City Tour bus. I took the bus last Saturday from Museum Nasional bus stop around noon. The city tour bus is free for the first 3 months. There is no information yet whether it will remain free or will there be any fare afterwards.

The operational hour for city tour bus is 9am - 7pm from Monday to Saturday, while for Sunday it's 12pm - 7pm due to the car free day on Sunday. There are 9 bus stops: Bundaran Hotel Indonesia (in front of Hotel Indonesia) - Museum Nasional - Pecenongan - Gedung Kesenian Jakarta - Istiqlal Mosque - Medan Merdeka Utara (near Istana Negara) - Monumen Nasional - City Hall - Sarinah - back to Bundaran Hotel Indonesia. The bus stop sign is marked "city tour".

For weekdays, the bus will stop at all of the bus stops, while for weekends each bus will stop at several bus stops only. The route for weekends:

- Bus #1 & #5: Hotel Indonesia bus stop only

- Bus #2: Museum Nasional, Gedung Kesenian Jakarta and Sarinah

- Bus #3: Istiqlal & Medan Merdeka Utara

- Bus #4: Monumen Nasional & City Hall

To check the latest weekend route, we can check the twitter account @CityTourJakarta. Bus stops in Hotel Indonesia and Monumen Nasional was packed with people, I think it's better to take bus #2 or #3 on weekends. Don't expect a nice queue - most people will try to force their way to enter the bus.

The bus itself is AC double decker bus and the capacity is limited so that nobody is standing inside the bus. Since it's still new, the bus condition is clean, good & the AC is working very well.

The drivers are mostly women and each bus has tour guide and a police officer. On my bus, the guide wasn't informative. He's mostly busy explaining about the dos & don'ts of the city tour bus and didn't explain much about the route. The explanation was supposed to be bilingual (Indonesian & English), but he only spoke in Indonesian language - probably because there's no foreigner on the bus at the time. Overall it's a nice experience although in my opinion the route is too short.

The bus starts at the plaza not the hotel.. Tour guides were very helpful. Don't think they run to a timetable. 3 busses came within minutes of each other then none for close to 45 minutes. This service is new and will only improve.

Thanks for your post. I watched this from youtube too. From my memory, it looked like the buses have big running electronic wordings for route information, so visitors can know which bus to take.

Good information, hope it will remain free. And nice that Jakarta has a bus route like this for the tourists, very comparable to KL or Singapore now, even in in my opinion, there is much less to see in Jakarta than other capital cities nearby.

Hi,

I want to share my experience too.

I take City Tour on Thursday, Jul 31 start at Sarinah bus stop.

At weekend & Public Holidays, the City Tour Bus doesn't stop at every bus stop, only one full round trip.

I seated at upper deck, after 45minutes ride (one round trip) the bus stopped again at Sarinah, & I have to go out from the bus. Tourists who sit in lower deck and want to have sightseeing from second level are allowed to move to upper deck, and finish at Bundaran HI stop (only 2-5 minutes).

I feel a little bit disappointed with my experience because that day the bus are full with young families, parents & little children are very noisy & busy(selfie), I can't hear the historical story about Sarinah, Monas, Lapangan Banteng, etc clearly.

The tour guide speak in Bahasa Indonesia because most of the passenger are domestic tourists.

The GOOD NEWS is the Jakarta City Tour is FREE until the end of 2014.

Hello Schonefeld,

Hehehe,

I've been curious about the blue double decker buses for several months and I want to try it by myself.

I want to know is it still free or not, the last information I know is that the City Tour Jakarta will free until end of May 2014. I'm wondering if it isn't free now, how much is the ticket fare & where to buy it.

I also want to enjoy the traffic less in Jakarta during Idul Fitri holiday.

I finished my first itinerary (Indosat gallery Sarinah) 1,5 hour earlier, so I decided to join the crowd (not queue ^_^)at the bus stop, and try the CityTour.

Another reason is I came to Jakarta in 1993, but I don't know Jakarta very well, I'm wondering what kind of information that I can get from the City Tour Jakarta (CTJ) tour guide. What place of interest/buildings that include in CTJ route.

Maybe next time I will try it once again (at the lower deck). In my opinion, the route is quite same as Transjakarta busway: Tomang - Harmoni (without explanation).

Maybe as a suggestion, they can have a separate bus/buses/queue for tourists so as not to compete with the locals who "live" and "grow" with the landmarks . Tourists have such a limited time and would certainly see more with this city tour. I have scheduled this on our first day so I hope we will be able to ride on one without having to jostle with everyone else. Keeping my fingers crossed.....:)
