If your only destination was to Dufan, then taking tour is completely unnecessary. (It's just like going to Escape theme park, who needs tour group???)

P.S. Big chance from Four Seasons you will have to take the executive taxis (Silver Bird), so the fare is more expensive than regular taxi. But on the way home, you can take the regular Blue Bird Taxi.

To avoid traffic jam to/from Dufan, if possible go to Dufan around 9 or 10am (pass office rush hour) and return back to hotel after afternoon rush hour around 6/7pm.

Under normal traffic condition, the taxi fare won't reach Rp300,000 (that's a bit extravagant! except you take executive taxis on both ways and stuck in traffic jam).

And your chances of being caught in a traffic jam are almost 100%. Traffic in Jakarta is horrendous.

I am sure you can find out about buses going to there.

I am sure I used a bus in July 2006 ( memory a but hazy) when I took about 13 Indonesian friends there including a young man in a wheel chair.

I just know we caught the train back to Bogor in the late afternoon.

pPamela, focus please! What's with the fuss telling your story about Bogor?

Anyway, to take a bus (Transjakarta Busway system) is also possible, but will involve some walking and 2 buses interchanges.

From Four Seasons, walk outside the hotel to busway stop 'Setiabudi Aini' (ask direction from concierge). It should be around several hundred meters away. Take the bus with the direction of Halimun, disembark at that bus stop (1 hop away) and then proceed to another line called 'Latuharhari' bus stop (Halimun and Latuharhari are the interchanges). Alight at 'Matraman' bus stop, change to the Ancol line at Matraman interchange. Then take the ride all the way until it reach Ancol bus terminus. You can walk leisurely to Dufan entrance from Ancol bus terminus, but you need to pay entrance to Ancol first at this point. Do the reciprocal for the other direction (but I believe you'll be tired after enjoying Dufan, so why bother, take taxi).

The entrance to Ancol is Rp5,000 only if you come through Ancol busway terminus.

Otherwise, it costs Rp10,000 per person as mentioned by verdims.

General tips for visiting Ancol

1/ Go on weekday. Around 9-10 a/m. Back (to avoid rush hours) at about 4-5 p/m (or earlier).

2/ Avoid weekends, public holidays, school holidays etc.

3/ Go on your own, tour is not advisable.

4/ Go by taxi (bus is too much hassle). As a poster from Yogja mentioned 300k, this is too much for sure 200k will be sufficient. Certainly if traffic is OK, if you stuck in jam the sun will easily jump to 500k or smth.

5/ About entrance fee and Dufan charge you already have a notion.
