First Time In Jakarta

We have already booked air tickets to fly from Singapore to Jakarta, Feb 6 till Feb 10, 2008.

This is actually Chinese New Year holidays in Singapore. Please advise if Jakarta celebrates Chinese New Year, hence, most shops are closed.

Also need advise regards to place to stay (3 to 4 star hotel), that is not too far away from tourist attractions like the museums, shopping markets, shopping centers and nightlife (upscale discos not seedy ones, pls).

Are there any beach resorts in Jakarta?

How long and how do we get about to Bandung from Jakarta? Is it safe?

Thanks for any help rendered.

Shops in the shopping centers/malls would be open on the Chinese New Year. Except if you go to the 'chinatown' district.

Museums are scattered around with some being in Central Jakarta. Shopping malls are also scattered around.

So I would suggest you to stay in Central Jakarta. The nice hotels in Central Jakarta are usually more upscale and therefore more expensive.

Beach resort... there are some hotels within the Ancol area, which is the beach area in Jakarta but it is a little bit out of the usual places for tourists. If you don't mind the transport time, then staying here would not be a problem. But if you want to be close to most things and does not really care about the beach... then stay somewhere else - like Central Jakarta.

Yes, we are celebrating Chinese New Year too in Jakarta. The official CNY holiday is on 7th Feb. Shopping malls will still be open. Most shops at Glodok (Chinatown), Mangga Dua, and Tanah Abang (wholesale center) will be closed though.

Central area is good place to stay. If you are budget conscious, some hotels you can consider: Ibis Arcadia, Ibis Tamarin, Millenium Sirih, Crowne Plaza.

On the bottom level of crowne plaza is Kama Sutra, new place for live music. In the mall next door, there is Vertigo, a lively night club.

Beach resorts located at Ancol. Only 2 beach resorts on site; Mercure Convention Center and Pondok Putri Duyung. More island resorts are short boat trip from Ancol.

Travelling to Bandung via highway will take approx 2 hour. Shuttle service (rp60,000 per person) runs daily from Kartika Candra Hotel (next to Planet Hollywood). And it is safe.
