APEC and Nusa Dua

Any ideas what to expect in Nusa Dua during APEC Summit? We are staying at the Novotel from the 30th to the 12th October, feel somewhat concerned now after reading a few posts and receiving an email from the hotel regarding security! Also can anyone tell me if there are any supermarkets (ie Hardys) near the Novotel?

Thanks

I think traffic would be your biggest problem. There will also be a lot of extra security.

We were there last APEC but not staying in ND but trying to get to Jimbaran was an absolute nightmare.

There is no hardys but there is a big supermarket at the Bali Collection.(forget the name im sorry but it is the only one)

There is a Hardys on your way into the Nusa Dua alcove, you can just grab a taxi there.

Hi mumlovesbali, I'm in the same situation, received the email yesterday & we arrive in nusa dua tomorrow.

We are not worried however, traffic is always useless in bali!

However, I am annoyed we have to use the resorts cars to get around, as they are pricey.

There is a circle k on the outside of the novotel, it's a small minimart & as post above says, bali collections is about a 5-10min walk away & that is a semi mall type place with Starbucks, food outlets & shopping.

Hi mumlovesbali, sadly during this period you might need to prepare for some disruption and inconvenience.

Perhaps consider a different venue, such as somewhere else on Bali, or maybe a visit to Lombok.

There is only one 'Nusa Dua' so it would be difficult to replicate that sort of broader 'resort domain' experience, but there are plenty of interesting, engaging and thoroughly engaging alternatives on either Bali or nearby Lombok.

There is a Novotel on Lombok, quite a different venue though.

Hi Mumlovesbali. We are also arriving at the Novotel on the 30th September, but have not received any information from the hotel. What are they saying about security?

Thanks for your messages. We actually got the email via Wotif booking from the novotel. The email states that transport will be easier to get from the rear of the hotel as follows....

• Kindly confirm with your Travel Agent or Tour Operator when you are scheduled to be pick up from the hotel during these period of time, to utilize back entrance of the hotel, Gallery Building /Pause Café Building

• You are advised to use back entrance of the hotel when you are coming back to the hotel via “Jalan Terompong” (Terompong Road) where you can find the back entrance of Gallery Building /Pause Café

(Excuse my cut and paste!)

So seems like business as usual apart from the fact there will be traffic . A lot!

Thanks also J Hurc, I love your advice and have used your info in reference to the Gili islands. We are all booked at the novotel and as its the Aus school holidays it seems that accomodation is at a premium. So here we come, and I can't wait!

I am sure I will meet you dafnnic! We arrive on the 30th, depart on the 12th, at least we will miss any airport closures owing to Obama and Putin etc.

I have not stayed in nusa dua before so will look forward to exploring with or without security escort(haha) but am certainly not looking forward to the disruption.

Thanks

Thanks for the reply. We arrive the 30th and leave on the 13 th, so no doubt we might see you around the pool.. This will be our fifth stay at the Novotel, so yes we like it a lot. Looking at your reply about using the back entrance, that is the way we get around once checked in so it will not bother us at all. Thank you for the information.

Thanks dafnnic, can I just ask as you have stayed there a few times, are there spas, laundries, restaurants etc within walking distance of the back entrance? Might not want to head anywhere in the traffic so would be good to know if there are places close by.

Cheers and thanks

Everything literally a few steps out the back gate. Laundry, spas and a few restaurants. A few more steps up the road and around the corner to the right is a street of local shops for sarongs/shirts etc and restaurants. Plenty of places to enjoy your stay, but we also enjoy the food and spa at the Novotel. So spoilt for choice.

We are here right now and today is when the clamp down starts. We have had to have security passes done up at our hotel reception (Novatel Nusa Dua) and security is tighter. You can still catch a cab but from the rear entrance. We walked past the APEC venue yesterday and were told off for taking photos from the beach side but apart from that business as usual. I will report if there are any other issues
