81 helpful votes Yes, the police station at Jl Gunung Sanhyang is the only place you can get a tourist motor bike license. They are open from 8am - 1pm. Take your passport, a photocopy of your passport and passport photo with you. If you want to cut your waiting time down, you can go to the back of the parking lot and look for the building with a sign "Pemohon Sim Asling/Foreigner License Applicant" written outside the secondfloor office. You will pay a bit extra but will cut down your waiting time. You will have to do a written test (answers provided). I am not sure of the cost now as last month we were told the cost of a tourist license was going up quite a bit.
Thank you for your response, NSW.
Do I also have to take riding test?

81 helpful votes No you don't have to take any riding test. I am not sure now if my husband had to take in his International car driver's license from home or not. I will ask him tonight and let you know.

81 helpful votes No International or drivers license from home was needed. Only the passport, photocopy of passport and passport photo.
My husband paid Rp300,000 (abt $30) last month which is Rp 50,000 more than I thought he should pay and about Rp 150,000 less than the motorbike company thought he should have paid.
It cost me 600,000 last November. I know there was underhanded money transfer going on as I saw one of the senior police put my money in his pocket. I was taken there by the bike rental shop. I didn't mind paying extra as the process is confusing if you don't have someone with you who can read and speak fluent Bahasa.

81 helpful votes Hi David P, you don't need to read or speak Bahasa or take anyone with you. There are police there that will help you. Got a great name card from one Police officer with "don't forget me" and "please call me anytime" written all over the top of it.
Probably the difference between the Rp250,000 and Rp300,000 was his "help" fee and my husband did not need a translator. Just common practice to have someone "help" you.

81 helpful votes Hi Balibuds, The minimum age to get a motorbike license in Bali is 17 years. Your son is only entitled to have a Bali tourist motorbike license which is valid for 1 month and is not valid to ride a bike anywhere outside of Bali.
