Interracial Family Question

My husband and I recently adopted a baby from a country in Africa. We have finalized paperwork and his US passport shows his last name to be the same as ours. I am just curious if anyone would question us when we fly into Bali for vacation with my husband and I being white and our son black. I don't believe adoption is too common in Indonesia so I am wondering if we will run into any problems? We have the paperwork to back any questions up but wondering if we should prepare ourselves going through customs at the airport.

I'm sorry I have no idea how Indonesian authorities will react however I have no reason to believe they would discriminate against you in anyway and I applaud your decision to adopt the way you have.

There's no need to worry. Balinese people are aware what adoption is and it does happen over here quite often.

If a husband / wife can't have children they will very often adopt a child from their nearest family so they can continue the family and have someone to leave their inheritance to.

I also had guests who traveled with their adopted child with a different skin colour and it was not awkward at all.

Great, thank you! I didn't think it would be a problem but just finished reading the Corby story so I'm probably more paranoid than usual ;)

What has the Shapelle Corby story got to do with your adopted African baby?

It does not matter as long as he has his own passport. Just FYI children in Indonesia do not need to travel with parents nor guardian, there's no rule about guardianship whatsoever. Therefore he'll be seen as an individual while in Indonesia, doesn't matter who his parent is
