Do I need to pay an airport departure tax in Indonesia?

Passenger Service Charges (PSC) for passengers departing from Indonesian Airports are normally paid at the time of check-in, or subsequent to check-in at a booth or counter nearby to the departure hall entrance area.

These charges are often referred to as "Airport tax", or "Departure tax".

The PSC is not payable for infants.

Since October 2012 the PSG is included in many Garuda tickets, check your ticketing for this information.

The PSC levies are not to be levied upon passengers who are in Transit or Transfer, only to those who are checking-in at that airport with a ticket to commence a departing journey, or for those who have separate ticketing for separate journey sectors.

CGK has Transit facilities, currently DPS does not as the airport is undergoing a major redevelopment of both the International and domestic terminals. The work at DPS is scheduled for completion in May 2013. After the new terminals are opened Transit facilities should be available at that airport.

Currently some domestic flights at DPS are departing and arriving per facilities at the existing international terminal.

Currently ALL passengers transiting in Denpasar (DPS) to another destination must purchase a visa (VoA), or use a visa issued to them from an Indonesian Consulate or Embassy prior to travel.

A visa is required for all transits in Jakarta that exceed 8 hours.

VoA (Visa on Arrival) are valid for 30 days and cost USD25.

Passengers departing from some airports on Garuda flights to Indonesia can purchase their visa at their departing airport following check-in, payment is normally in cash only and in the currency of the nation in which the flight is boarded.

VoB (Visa on Board) is available from limited international departure points in Australia, Japan, Amsterdam, Abu Dhabi, China and elsewhere. VoB is not available on all Garuda international flights to Indonesia, nor is it available on airlines other than Garuda Indonesia.

The VoB facilities are only provided on flights operated by Garuda Airbus A330-200s, and will not be available on those operated by Airbus A330-300s and 737-800NGs.

Passengers departing from Melbourne or Perth in Australia must purchase their VoA in Indonesia. Please note some nationalities cannot purchase a Visa on Arrival and if so then they must purchase their visa before departure at an applicable Indonesian Consulate or Embassy. Those arrangements should be made well prior to departure to ensure that a visa is available.

My husband and I have several domestic flights to take within Indonesia. Even if we are in transit from Denpasar to Jogjyakarta, then Jogjyakarta via Surabaya to Lombok, then Lombok via Denpasar to Labuanbajo and the back to Denpasar. I am assuming that we need to pay a departure tax each time we leave an island. Am I correct?

We are using Lion Air for 3 of these flights and Merpati for another.

Thanks J_hurcules for taking the time to post this helpful information.

Cheers!

Yes, it is levied upon all passengers, other than infants <2yo and some official dignitaries.

It is incorporated into GA domestic ticketing, other passengers pay direct at a booth or counter, or in some airports at the check-in counter.

The CGK airport guideline for application of PSC states:

"3.9.4 Exemption of the passenger service charge tariff shall be granted to infant passenger, crew, extra crew, transit, transfer, passengers and International Delegates in official visits in Indonesia"

Do I need to pay Airport Tax anymore in Bangkok using Lion Air? Because I saw the ticket said Include Airport Tax but I'm afraid that's not Departure Tax like what I mean.

Thanks

I have read in many reviews that Lion air is not recommended due to unforeseen delays and rescheduling?

Some say loss of luggage is common.

Should I plan to travel by Lion air?

If it so uncertain then how come they are increasing their aircrafts?

I need to book flts as under, in June 2014:

Medan to Jakarta

Yogyakarta to bali to Luban bajo

Luban Bajo to Bali

Please help.

Thankx

@RAVI11 - I have flown Lion/Wings Air many times and yes they are known for some flight delays. Although mostly common in the late afternoon & early evening when they are still catching up on their backlog.

If you fly in the morning you will usually encounter no problems in terms of delays & lost luggage. Mind you leave plenty of 'breathing' time in between connecting flights in case of any delays. Your route seems suitable for the above mentioned airline.

Here are some past reports:

The information in this post is great, but since it was written in 2012 my question is if the airport tax in Makassar is still 100.000rp per person for an international flight. Does anyone have recent experience with this? Thanks
