Nanjing in 1 day

Hi, I'm unsire if adding Nanjing to my itinerary or not... If I would, I'd stay one day only in Nanjing, would it be worthwhile? What do you suggest to visit in Nanjing? And what is the best way to get there from Shanghai? Aso, is it easy to find train tickets from Ananjing to Beijing?

thanks!

Nanjing is an interesting city, though a day is rather short. You can visit the Sun Yat-sen tomb and the Ming tombs, which are much more interesting than the tombs in Beijing. The Palace of the Heavenly Kingdom is also of interest. There a couple of temples, and an old city wall, too, but you would run out of time.

For shopping there is the Confucian temple/Kongzimiao area.

It is much easier to get train tickets from Shanghai to Beijing than Nanjing to Beijing.

There are lots of trains between Shanghai and Nanjing, including the new high-speed trains. Those take 2 to 2.5 hrs.

By far the best and the most unique thing for you to see in one day in nanjing is the Lion Gate Hill Pagoda.

For an Italian very interesting, the pagoda itself is amazing however this is the site where the voyages of the Chinese marinars set sale from and are depicted in the book 1412.

Inside the Padoga which is huge is a mural, replicas of the vessels, voyage charts,

It this important part of Chinese history had the supporting documents, I might be proven that This mariner found America.

20 minute and 20rmb taxi ride from the ultra modern nanjing Train station.

1-day must-sees in Nanjing: Sun Yat-Sen Mausoleum, Ming Hongwu Mausoleum, Presidential Palace, Zhonghua Gate and Fuzimiao area. I would add Nanjing Massacre Memorial, but sadly it's not open till December this year.

Best way to go from Shanghai to Nanjing would be the new D trains.

Shanghai -- Nanjing D trains:

D402 (0610--0820)

D404 (0615--0825)

D406 (0748--1011)

D408 (0853--1106)

D410 (0858--1111)

D412 (0915--1138)

D414 (0945--1143)

D416 (1025--1233)

D418 (1030--1238)

D420 (1040--1243)

D422 (1208--1421)

D424 (1218--1431)

D426 (1355--1608)

D428 (1405--1613)

D430 (1420--1623)

D432 (1425--1628)

D434 (1433--1653)

D436 (1535--1748)

D438 (1540--1753)

D440 (1545--1758)

D442 (1730--1943)

D444 (1735--1948)

D446 (1855--2104)

D448 (1900--2109)

D450 (2020--2238)

Relatively easy getting tickets for Nanjing -- Beijing (overnight) but would still advise buying in advance if at all possible.
