Don't worry about road blocks or celebration. The big celebrations there are for Chinese New Year (in Jan. or early Feb.), not the Western new year. There are also markets in Mong Kok in front of the station (both day and night) and along Cameron or Granville road for seconds' markets for discounted brand name clothes. You might also wish to visit the bird market in the Yau Ma Tei area as well (fun for picture opportunties, but ask first).

Lantau is nice, you could spend more time there going to Cheung San (long beach, probably the nicest beach in HK).

In Central there is a cheaper shopping area, not sure about the building name, near the World Wide building. If you see lots of Filipinas in the building, you'll know that you found the right building.

Lan Kwai Fong is overrated, though it can be fun, and also a bit expensive. If you like dressing up and have cash to spare, it can be enjoyable.

You of course could also take the bus to Shek O or Stanley (not for the market, the bus ride is very scenic). If you have time, you may also wish to go out to Fanling (traditional area) towards the border with Shenzhen. Another closer option is to visit Wong Tai Sin Temple (at the station with the same name).

In Macau, try and search out some good Porteguese restaurants as well as visiting some of the beaches whcih generally have black sand, some scenic views. There is also one famous recommended cemetary to visit as well, sorry, can't remember the name off the top of my head.

Hi

just to comment on your Day2.

Lantau island by skyrail.

Do note that the skyrail starts only at 10am..u can reach Ngong Ping village by 10.30am....

just walk across the village & u can't miss the giant buddha.

climbing the stairs only take me <20mins (up & down).

& if u plan to eat at Po Lin Monastery, i find the veg meals (at HKD60per head) so so..

& i noticed there was a cafeteria selling veg beehoon, soyabeancurd etc seems more appetizing.

Think u can also do some shopping at Citygate (Tung Chung MTR terminal).

Day 1 - You probably mean the Ladies Market. Take in the Bird Garden Market, the Goldfish market and the flower market too. These are all relatively close to each other. Plan to go to the Avenue of Stars around 7:30 to 8:30pm to see the Symphony of Lights laser show (each night)

Day 2 Lantau is probably going to take longer than your plan. You walk to the Big Buddha after you get out at NgongPing village (about a kilometre). Go to the Peak for an evening view then onto So Ho. Its going to be a huge day!!!

Day 3 - Ocean Park in the morning. In the late afternoon you may shop around Causeway Bay area (get out at Times Square exit) on the Central Island, then Star Ferry back to your hotel from Wanchai wharf.

Day 4 - You could visit the Museum of History on the Kowloon side. Check if it is open. I THINK (Not 100% sure) its is closed on Tuesdays.

Day 5 - I believe there is a free light show (Cybernetc water fountain show )in Macau which may interest you. What about a casino?

Day 6 - Spend time in the main square (Senado Square) of Macau and visit the main attractions around here. Go to a Portuguese Restaurant.

There are plenty of dining establishments at Ngong Ping village - vegetarian is not your only option.
