Budget for meals

Hi

How much does it cost on average for a simple meal in a small cafe (not expensive restaurant)?

Is it true that a plate of wan tan mee can cost around HK$25?

Thanks.

Hi,

I just went to Hong Kong in August. Average cost for simple meal in small cafe is about $25. Example breakfast set I have eaten at a Yau Ma Tei small cafe is HK$25 includes 1 Ham Macaroni soup, 1 Pork burger and 1 coffee.

Yes, it is possible that a plate of wan tan mee cost HK$25. We have eaten a Baked Pork Rib rice at HK$45, just in a small cafe (so called Tea Restaurant)

I would suggest you set your meal budget at HK$50 per meal provided you don't go expensive restaurant.

We had tried dim sum in Hong Kong, average spending on dim sum per person is about HK$50-$80. Please take note that some restaurants have dim sum promotion if you finish your meal before 12pm. Hence, before you walk into any dim sum restaurant, check if they have any promotion or not

If you live like the locals do, you should allow HK$150 per day for meals. On average, breakfast at Chinese cafes or small restaurants is $20, lunch $40-$50, and dinner $80.

Wan Tan noodle (in a bowl of soup) can cost anywhere between $20 to $40, depending on the restaurant. Sometimes what you get for $20 might also be a smaller portion than you would expect (such as Mak's noodles).
