China Fleet Club

Hi folks,

I am visiting Hong Kong over Christmas with my fiancee. My late father served in HK with the army in the late 70s and I remember him saying the China Fleet Club was his favourite place. I understand it no longer exists and is possibly a car showroom??

Would anybody be able to kindly provide a specific address so I could visit the spot where it used to be?

Thanks in advance.

Jonathan

I don't have the address number. It is where Arsenal Street crossing Gloucester Road.

Here's the location on Google Map:

The old white cylindrical shape watch tower is still there at the corner.

The China Fleet Club was knocked down in 1982.

I don't know whether it 's the same location as the Fenwick Pier in Wan Chai or not.

There is a Fleet Arcade inside the Fenwick Pier.

Few restaurants in the Fleet Arcade, I had a dinner in a restaurant below:

Not the same location. Fenwick Pier is (should be "was") further out into the the Victoria Harbour than China Fleet Club. It was where the US navy sailors arrived riding the walla-wallas from their aircraft carriers or battleships to come onshore to Wan Chai for a night's out.

Fenwick Pier is a "pier" in spirit only, for whatever purpose they use it for these days.

Oh wow! A question about the old China Fleet Club. I remember visiting this place with my Dad/family back in the late 1960's. I have vague memories of a bowling alley there. Dad still has carefully hoarded, some vintage shoes that he bought in the old exchange.

Fenwick Pier is still a proper pier which is where the overseas navy fleets dock when they call Hong Kong for visits / shore leaves

Hey OLY: where is the Fenwick Pier now? It's old location (used in the 60's-80's?) seems to be filled with dirt now. I thought they just built new structures on top of that location.

Sorry, I was just disagreeing on the 'Fenwick Pier is a "pier" in spirit only' bits as the 'new' one where the US fleets dock was only just closed a few years back (less than 5 years), now the US fleets dock at Tsing Yi or Kennedy town...

it was at Fenwick Pier street (further down towards Lung Wo Road from the 'old' pier on fenwick street) behind the Academy for Performing Arts. Right now the 'new' Fenwick pier is reclaimed and a big construction site though the 'Fleet Arcade' in front of the pier is still there (with some nice restaurants)
