We hired Jimmy for three days to drive us to Laitan, Dazu And the three natural bridges. I am posting a report on the sights and our experiences in a separate post, this post is primarily about Jimmy.
We didn't know what to make of Jimmy, he was friendly at times and at other times he was rude to us, ignoring us when we were picked up in the morning and cutting us off half way through our sentences. We felt as though sometimes everything was just too much effort for him.
Our biggest bone of contention was about ordering the food at lunch. We were paying the bill for both him and the driver, absolutely no problem as we were expecting this. We went to some lovely restaurants and had some great food. The thing we objected to was the over ordering of food. At our first lunch we had at least four dishes that we did not order.the second day the same thing happened. On the third day we only ordered what WE wanted - making sure there was enough for four of us. Even then Jimmy was pointing to the beef dishes telling us to try those. We stuck our heels in, both of us felt a slight atmosphere over the meal. Strangely enough Jimmy told us the posting he had had from the client from Singapore who had complained about him over ordering on the fish meal - no smoke without fire?!
We were told that the Buddha at Laitan was closed for renovation, it clarified our feeling about Jimmy when we did not believe him 100%.
So to sum up - on hindsight ( a wonderful thing!) we were pleased with the safety of the driving and the standard of the car, Jimmy was good when he was in the right mood but seemed to lack any enthusiasm for his job. He is resting back on his laurels and definitely needs a bit of healthy competition to up his game a bit.
