Wangfujing - day or night?

My hotel, Park Plaza Wangfujing is obviously located in or very near to the pedestrian complex anyway, but what would be the best time of the day to experience Wangfujing? When do the shops shut?

I am not really interested in trying deepfried scorpions in the nightmarket, but would like to window shop and take a few photos.

Wangfujing is a pedestrian shopping street lined up with shopping malls. The shops in these malls close at 10pm.

Perpendicular to Wangfujing you have the street where they sell the scorpion (just where the street ceases to be pedestrian towards the west). This place is only open in the evening and they start packing up at about 9h30. Further south, also on the west side) is the snack street with a lot of small restaurants serving "street food" as well as some souvenir shops. Also mostly an evening place, it closes a bit later.

Remember not to follow anyone who approaches you to "practice english" or want to take you a bar.

This area is very touristy and Beijingers very rarely go there. While it is also somewhat touristy, Qianmen is similar but much better in my view. Qianmen street is right south of the Tian'Anmen square. You need to explore the area to the west of it (called Dashilar). It has a lot of restaurants and shops and you can walk the hutongs. You can start you visit in late afternoon and have dinner there.

Novotel would be walking distance to Tian'Anmen and Qianmen (novotel.com/gb/…location.shtml). I guess that you can use a guide but you also just walk randomly among the hutongs on the west side (Dashilar) of Qianmen.

You do not need a guide for the area. It is a great area just to experience. Lots of shops and restraunts. Little English is spoken in area if that is a concern but will not prevent you from enjoying area.

It is walking distance from Park Plaza to Wangfujing Street.

There are two food market there, one is by the east gate of Forbidden City, it is out door market , 6 PM will be busy there, 150 meters long with regular or strange food there.

the other one is the southern part of the street to the west following one arch door, there are out door and indoor food there, especially you can see the alive scorpion there.

Most of shopping malls are closed by 9:30 PM.
