Train Beijing to Shanghai (Z Train)

Hi there,

I remember reading on a web site (can't find it now) that said the Z train from Beijing to Shanghai no longer has the 2 person private sleeper car. Is this true?

I am traveling with my cousin and really don't want to share a car with 2 strangers. I'm sure it's safe; however, I don't think I would be able to sleep at all and would be exhausted by the time we get to Shanghai. My other option is to fly, but I would like to have the experience of traveling by train in China, as well as not having to pay for a nights hotel stay.

Does the 2 person sleep still exist? Details please.

Thanks!

Monica

easy to solve it.

check with the agent, if there is, get a privat room on the train. If not, get a 4 persons room, the prices are quite close anyway. USD 300 for 4 persons room of the Z train to Shanghai.

Thanks Chris,

I had also posted this question on another forum. I found out the Z train no longer has the 2 person sleeper. (I wonder why?). In any case, yes, we will book the 4 compartments on the Z train.

thanks,

Monica

"another train to shanghai T109 has 2 person softer sleeper, there are about 1 and half hour longer than Z train"

How's the quality/comfort, etc on the T trains versus the Z trains? Also, do these 2-person soft sleepers have a toilet in the room?

Thanks!

Z train is the best and the most comfortable train in China. Generally speaking, it has the least stop, mostly non-stop, and the best equipments.

If you want a really pleasant trip, Z train is the best option.

T train is also acceptable, however, from the price, if it is soft sleeper, you cannot see much difference from these two.

We mostly choose the hard sleeper of the T train for travelling, for Z train has no hard sleeper.

So Chris, are you stating that the soft sleeper on the T train is of the same comfort as the Z trains for the same price?

If we choose the Z train, will it be easy to book all 4 beds in the compartment?

Thanks!

You are absolutely correct.

I just check the price. For Z or T train, it is the same price for the soft sleeper, about 500 yuan per bed.

Generally speaking, the Z train can be booked 10 days before departure, while the T is 4 days. If you come China in the busy season, like May or October, try to ask the booking early enough. And most travel companies will ask for 30 to 100 commission for each ticket.

Do tell them that you want the whole compartment.

You can also send me mail or message,I will check my schedual to see whether I am in Beijing then or not to help.

Thanks Chris! This certainly helps me. Since the T and Z train soft-sleepers are the same price, I might as well book the T train and pay for the 2 beds rather than the 4 beds on the Z train.

Of course, I'll need to check the train schedules, but as I understand it the T train takes just a little longer than the Z train to get to Shanghai.

I actually arrive in Beijing on the 9th of October and plan to head to Shanghai the evening of the 15th.

Thanks,

You are really smart to escape the crowd of the October National Holiday.

Have a nice trip.

However, I still cannot understand why you choose the T train.

BTW, T train is a little longer because 2 or 3 more stops in the middle. The schedule is about 4 Z trains from around 21:00 to 8:00, and 2 T trains about the same time right now.

Good luck.

"However, I still cannot understand why you choose the T train."

I did see that the price per bed on the Z and T trains are the same. If we did the Z train, we would need to buy 4 beds (we want privacy). If on the T train, then we can book their 2-person compartment. The Z train no longer has the Z-person compartment.

I would prefer the Z train but that means double the price. However, it's manageable because we are not spending money on a hotel that nigt.

Monica

PS: Yes, I knew about the national holiday the first week in October, so I did plan it to arrive on the 10th.
