I am an experienced independent traveller, on a flashpacker budget (cheap hotels, good hostels).
I am interested in cities, culture, food, music, history, not much hiking (except for Simantai-Jinshanling)
My planned routing is as follows:
Beijing + Great Wall, daytime side trips - approx 6 nights
half day travel and Datong - 2 nights
half day travel and Pingyao - 2 nights
overnight travel and Xi'an - 3 nights
half day travel and Luoyang - 2 nights
Travel day to Nanjing - 1 night
Nanjing - 2 nights
Shanghai - 2 nights
(will return eventually to Shanghai to see more of China, so not critical to spend too much time there)
Is this itinerary solid? Of course I haven't gone into much detail, but I am quite good at organising my time in cities, attractions and that sort of thing. I am more interested if there is anything obviously wrong with this itinerary? It there something I should be careful look out for that an old china hand can spot? Or somewhere really awesome to visit close by these cities that I am missing? Specifically other spots outside of Shaghai?
I seem to be hitting some major attractions and UNESCO sights, which is what I aim for.
Thanks in advance.
