This is not how it works. Everybody is different. You decide what your budget is and you spend accordingly.
I don't know how any of us is supposed to know how much you want to spend on souvenirs. I once bought "silk" throws for 20 rmb each. I bought a whole bunch for the women in my office. To this day I am still a hero. Then again I have friends who bought supposedly expensive natural rocks for thousands of USD. Those rocks, as far as I can tell, are still sitting on some shelf somewhere.
Rule of thumb: don't buy anything with a price tag over 100yuan at a souvenir shop. Better go to those with 10 to 20yuan. Make sure you have enough small change.
