My family were there last week and said they had never seen anything like it! They were staying at Intrepids and using their 4x4s for game drives but then had to get their bus towed out of the park to be able to leave.

Well, it is the 'long' rains now in Apr and maybe similar even thru May. You just never know from year-to-year what will be.

When it comes to Aug which is a 'dry' months, and though there can be some rain anytime of year... unlikely it will be anything as is happening in the Mara at this time. I sure wouldn't put off a trip scheduled for Aug because it's raining when it's supposed to.

Hey, right now in the States, they're still getting lots and lots of snow in the Dakotas and other northern border States. And, it's almost May. Next they'll have to worry about is flooding.

It's weather folks, and as with game... no guarantees. You just go with the flow and there's plenty of 'flowing' right now.

G,

Kilifi or Garissa maybe, but looks like they need boats rather than wellies

We were in the Mara last week, and the rivers were so swollen. Many places were un passable, and we saw a few stuck vehicles - mainly delivery trucks, The great thing was no mini-vans as there is no way they could negotiate the wet.

In the space of 2 hours, we saw the Talek River rise by close to 2 meters.

But the game viewing was awesome.

We were in the Mara till Monday morning, mainly in the Mara Serena area. We had to drive up and down from the Mara Sarova - Keekorok area gate on the way in and out. The Mara river level was high under the bridge. The track had water in many parts, some places had to be crossed very gingerly. Many of the little tracks off the main track were flooded, some vanished into the grass, so we had to backtrack on a few occasions and find alternate tracks during game drives. Our driver-guide knew the area well, so we were not worried.

Lovely weather, sunrises, sunsets, clouds, views of the distant rain and the sightings.

JBR coming up. Big thanks to all on the TA forum for quality guidance.

Regards,

Jyoti
