Not that I know the answer but for those that may be able to help are you thinking in terms of traffic or sightseeing or both?

It depends on exactly what you want to do and where you intend to go. I guess it will be more fun to spend weekdays in Mombasa and weekends in Nairobi. Again, if you want to travel from Nairobi to other places and back, Nairobi could be ideal and vice-versa.

You'll find a few clubs and bars in Mombasa itself (Mombasa Town is on an island) but you'll find more and your diving in the Nyali and Bamburi areas on the North Coast 5 to 7 miles away. Apart from being a tourist area it is also an area that lots of Nairobians come to for the weekends, so they pack quite a few of the bars, particularly the ones that have live music, especially when they have Kenyan or regional stars on. Many of them venture a little further into Kenya's 'Sin city', Mtwapa, with its more than 400 bars.

The South Coast (Diani, etc), around 13 to 23 miles from Mombasa Town, has better beaches, than the North, but is less developed so doesn't have as many clubs and bars.
