You can find many wonderful items at any of the Masai markets which are held around town on different days of the week. Just ask at your hotel. Prices start much lower than what you can find in "tourist" shops and they are willing to barter to give you an excellent value for what you buy.

Carvings might be the only thing I might not recommend you buy unless you know for sure that the wood has been seasoned. Otherwise, you might find you have a cracked carving in a few months once the wood dries.

Also, City Market is reasonable. And, if you're looking for an excellent snack, walk across the street to Tuskys supermarket bakery dept for the freshly made samosas. Delicious!!

Any tips on where to buy good coffee? So far what I have seen in supermarkets (incl. Java House and Dormans brands) is not that great.

Take a visit to the Kazuri bead workshop, they will give you an escorted tour of the workshops explaining how the beads are made then you can go in there shop and stock up on beautiful jewelry, pottery bags etc all beautifully made and very reasonable. Kazuri outlets are in most malls but much more choice in their shop at the workshop.

Re Coffee, Java House espresso is my current favourite. They don't do a dark roast so it doubles as both their dark roast and espresso. Makes a nice cup in a cafetiere or filter

Tea, Kazuri beads and Out of Africa nuts (honey coated macademia nuts and cashews are fantastic)

In addition to food & drink items which are gone in a few days, buy some high quality lasting memory bronze animals, a Baobab tree coffee table, a baby lion paw print belt buckles, etc., etc. at MatBronze where they are manufactured in house.

Colorful African design clothes(material), batik design wall hanging, etc.

Also foster a orphaned baby elephant(s) & rhino(s) at Sheldrick.

We bought all of above.
