Hi,

Karatu is in Ngorongoro Area thus it would take you anything upto 4 hours to get to Kili Airport.

Karatu - Lk. Manyara = 1/hr

Lk.Manyara - Arusha - 2-2.5/hrs to the airport, which is at the southern end of Arusha; you won't have to drive thru town.

Check-in for a domestic flight is 1/hr.

But, depending on day of week (Sunday being the best), traffic (vehicles, people walking or riding bikes, cattle, etc.) has to be considered.

The very latest departure from Karatu would be 9:30am. Better to be a bit early!

Hi Explorer,

In Lake Manyara the best option would be Serena, Lake Manyara Lodge is quite run down and Lake Manyara Tree Lodge is way too expensive - alternatively you could visit Lake Manyara and then spend the night at Arusha Mountain Village Lodge which is very close to Arusha and a beautiful lodge you may check it on this link serenahotels.com/tanzania/…home.asp

Another option at Lk. Manyara is Kirurumu Camp which gets excellent reviews; also, a tad less expensive than the Serena.

In Arusha, the Serena Mountain Village is nice, but no pool. Traveling during the hot season, you might want hotel or B&B with a pool. In the same vicinity (the road between JRO and Arusha) is Ngurudoto Lodge - the chalet rooms are lovely w/ bedroom, living room and bath, has pool and golf.

There are more options closer in Arusha where you can also walk-about, if you wish.

If you are flying out of Arusha Airport you should spend your last night at Arusha Coffee Lodge, not Mountain Village. Coffee Lodge will keep you from having to drive through town to get to the airport. If you are flying out of Kili airport, then stay at Mountain Village, again so that you do not have to drive through town on your way to the airport the next day. Both lodges are very nice although probably the most expensive in Arusha. Traffic in Arusha has become very bad just in the last 6 months.
