Nairobi worth a few extra days?

i am planning a camping safari and have the option of spending a day either side of the trip in nairobi. I am a single female traveller, any one can tell me what I can do if I do decide to stay?

From experience I would definitely recommend a day in Nairobi either side of your safari. We were camping over the New Year, we spent the first day in Nairobi but didn't have the time to manage a day at the end. We arrived back in the hotel in Nairobi and with a couple of hours were on our way to the airport. It would have been good even to have had the night there, for a shower and a good night's sleep in a real bed more than anything.

As for Nairobi, you can visit the elephant orphanage (open 11-12 for non-sponsors), the giraffe centre at Langata and the Karen Blixen museum. That could see you okay for a full day. You always have the option of Nairobi National Park, though whether you'd consider this when you're doing a safari anyway is another matter. The Bomas of Africa is another option, never experienced it but it sounds fairly tacky tourist fodder to me. Or just a day relaxing around the pool at your Nairobi hotel may be just what you need after all that time in the bush.

Whatever you decide, I hope you have a brilliant time.
