Thoughts on this safari option?

I have never been on safari and looking for a safari holiday in Kenya. We want luxury lodges and camping, and seeing lots of animals and fun. Beyond that not really sure what to look for. Does this safari cover what you think a first timer should see? Or is there anything missing you would recommend we should not miss? Not too worried about money, but want good value. And can do a longer trip but have been advised that we won't longer than a week on bumpy safari drives.

I total disagree with the above itinerary as its too rushy to me. Out of my personal Experience, I can only take a minimum of 3nights in Masai Mara 1 night in Lake Naivasha or a break in Nairobi ending with 2nights in Amboseli. I have done both parks and for sure they are rewarding if you have enough time.

So we should be looking at a 7 day safari only visiting two places?

Not a bad itinerary, needs tweaking.

On Day 5 - Journey from Nakuru to Amboseli can't done in a day. Night driving isn't recommended.

Do ask the 'Tourradar' how long it will take ?

For a 7 day safari, consider:

Option 1: 2 Parks eg Mara & Amboseli

Option 2: 3 Parks: Ol Pejeta, Nakuru & Mara

You can also make it 8days the better as you can do

Option 1

2nights Amboseli

2night Lake Nakuru or Lake Naivasha

3nights Masai Mara

Option 2 7days

2nights Amboseli

1night Lake Naivasha

3nights Masai Mara

For me, this options is practical better

All the best.

If you are not worried about money why not design your own itinerary and look at flying rather than driving. This way you don't spend so much time in transit.

Mara requires a minimum of 3 nights. Check out tented camps rather than lodges. Altho tented camps cost more you can mix both lodges & tented.

Agree this is too rushed and too much driving. It mainly uses Sopa lodges also, which are big chain lodges and, whilst comfortable, not what I'd call "luxury".

You say "have been advised that we won't longer than a week on bumpy safari drives"- who advised you this? Maybe someone who has done an itinerary like this one!

There is far too much driving in the package and not really high end lodges. Sopa Amboseli is quite some distance from the park, with normal driving on a very bumpy road it will take you close to 30min. If you say that money is not the main issue, look for a more high end package. Things to look for:

* try to have a minimum of 3 nights in any place you visit to have enough time to enjoy gamedrives (except for very small parks, but definitely is you visit Mara, Amboseli, Tsavo, Samburu, Laikipia etc).

* If possible invlude flights between some parks necaiqe road transfers can be very long making you loose lots of time*

* Have your gamedrives in 4*4 Landrover or Landcruiser with local guides in every park instead of minivans

* For really high end, you can stay in smaller camps in Conservancies eg in Mara, Amboseli, Laikipia

* in Amboseli (the area I know best), I would go for Tortilis Camp, Ol Tukai lodge or Kibo Camp depending on your budget. Or Porini which is just north of Amboseli in their own conservancy.
