Warning. About a calesh driver outside the lotus

Just to let you know that a calesh driver outside the lotus hotel. Is ripping tourists off

He will say 20.le. Then say it is 120 le. This is for a ride to Luxor temple.

I can only describe his as having very dark skin.

If you are thinking of going on a calesh have the right money on you.

This man can turn very nasty .

Sorry about the spelling

Whilst it is good to warn fellow tourists about such problems, unfortunately your lack of any identifying information is not really that helpful as your comment could describe and and may calleche drivers in Luxor.

The following information, for example, would be helpful?

Did you take a note of his/the calleche number?

Do you recall the name of the Driver ?

Do you recall the name of the horse? The drivers are often quick to give you some silly name for the horse.

What colour was the horse? Any specific markings you can recall?

This is fairly standard behaviour for many of them, not just this one

Potential users need to clarify exactly the costs before getting on

i.e.

. LE NOT £

. For all persons, not PER person

. No detours to their uncle's/cousin's shop, the non-tourist market or anything.

and it is better to say you have been before than admit you arrived, for your first time, yesterday

I would agree that this is pretty 'standard' behaviour from most caleche and taxi drivers, if they think they can get away with it, especially against 'new' arrivals that don't know the prices or the practices.

With any of them, just be firm, don't allow yourself to be bullied and follow the tips already given above and under no circumstances be pressured into paying more than you have previously agreed.

And I will add get out of the calèche before handing over the cash, this applies to taxis also this gives you back you independence.

There are very few calèche's displaying their license plate at the rear on the axle. I would suggest if you must use a calèche try to find one with a license plate on display then you are using one that starts out with nothing to hide but this is not to say you won't have any problem.

Also as stated above if anyone asks if this is your first time in Luxor say no you have been lots of times.

KV or anyone, this first timer (April) asks what is a calesh? Some kind of horse drawn cart it seems? Is this a common way to get around for tourists. I usually avoid these kinds of thing.

Yes, a calesh is a horse-drawn carriage - it can carry four people (sometimes five if someone sits beside the driver) and is pulled along by one horse.

and this is a more modern 220 HP calèche : autoboost.fr/photo/hummer-caleche-l-4038.jpeg
