Moving around Luxor

Hello,

I'll be taking the Sleeper Train tonight to Luxor from Cairo. How should I be moving around Luxor? I've got a few days, and staying on the West Bank. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Bicycles are good to use on The West Bank, especially. Great value too.

I've had the worst experience with people harassing, and trying to con us of money when it comes to taxi and boat rides. There was one person who actually claimed that cross the banks take an hour and so we should take his private boat. We did it with the ferry in 5 mins :S I would like to get away from such harass, and conmen if possible.

The only way to avoid them is to keep walking, not make eye contact and not get involved in any conversation.

Even saying 'NO' or 'La Shukran' is just taken as the opening gambit in a purchase

It is also possible to take local buses if you feel strong.

Basically, walk around as much as you can and take a taxi when your legs give out.

When you have taken the local ferry once you will have no difficulty going to and fro. This is the obvious and easy way to cross from .west Bank to East Bank.

Then you know what to expect in Luxor, sad to say ......

Use the local ferry and try to pay fares with the correct amount of cash to avoid being short-changed.

Anyone know how much is taxi from Luxor Temple to Luxor Museum? Also from Luxor Museum to Karnak Temple?

That would give me a guide to negotiate with the drivers.

Thanks!

The Museum Is only 1/2 mile N from the Temple - see blue 'Maps' link on the right of this page, then the Central map. So I would just walk up the Corniche probably.

Others might argue, but if asked for 25LE to get to Karnak, I would be haggling more. Taxi prices are an emotive topic on this forum!
