Just returned from Egypt where we stayed for 3 nights at the Mena House. It is amazing! You cannot beat the location overlooking the pyramids or the public rooms which are spectacular. They are in the process f refurbishing the rooms but it doesn't cause any disruptions. The rooms and baths are due for an overhaul.. They are perfectly fine but not up to 5 * standards. After our Nile river cruise we stayed at the Four Seasons - Giza which was extremely luxurious and great, but starting at the Mena House was very special. Just don't expect the rooms themselves to be anything other than adequate. The restaurants are excellent and the pool is beautiful and the service is top notch.

Have a look at their website, it will explain the differences in the rooms and there is a video and fab pictures www.oberoihotels.com

Stayed there in August 2006, basically the "old" part is the original palace and the "new" is the newer building. The lobby/ bank/ shops and the restaurants are in the original palace, the suites in the palace have pyramid views, some of the rooms have pyramid views and some have garden views.

In the newer building there are a few rooms with pyramid views but more have garden views (cheaper). If your budget doesnt stretch that far dont worry because the views from the gardens are amazing and at breakfast you look directly at the pyramids. There are also cabana type rooms around the swiming pool. All guests are able to wander around the palace and use all facilities, we spent two hours looking at all the black & white photos on the walls, even found one of a bunch of Aussies.

You will love the hotel no matter what room you have!
