Has anyone traveled with Adventures Abroad? They are a Canadian company. They look great on paper (or on the internet) but I can't find many personal reviews. I'd appreciate anything I can learn.
My husband and I have been travelling with Adventures Abroad since 2002. We have made trip to the countries listed below. We have never felt the need to even think of trying another company. We like the small group size and, a small point, the fact that all tipping is taken care of. We have heard of so many trips being spoiled with everyone discussing the tips for each local, driver....etc and forgetting the purpose of the trip - relax, see the sights and enjoy. In all these trip we have only had one company guide who was below the usual high standard. We have had several guides visit us at home. We think this is a very good company. We have our next trip booked to Panama and Costa Rico this November.
2002 Egypt, Kenya, Tanzania
2003 China cancelled due to SARS outbreak
2004 Chile, China
2005 Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador, Myanmar, Thailand,Lao
2006 Singapore, India, Copper Canyon Mexico
2007 Spain,
2008 West Africa *, Namibia & Botswana
2009 Nepal, Bhutan, Sikkim, Ladahk, Arga
2010 Vietnam, Cambodia
2011 Jordan and Syria
* Senegal, Mali, Burkino Faso, Ghana, Togo, Benin
Adventures Abroad tours are outstanding. My husband and I have travelled with Adventures Abroad to Egypt, Jordan,Greece,Turkey and the Balkans. The Adventure Abroad small group tours are well organized and dependable with experienced and knowledgeable tour leaders. Our June 2011 tour to Iceland and Greenland had an amazing itinerary. Whale and puffin watching, jeep tour on Vatnajokull glacier, boat tour on Jokulsarlon glacial lagoon, and a visit to the Blue Lagoon. At the included daily dinners ,our guide, provided us with lot's of opportunity to try the local food. Our highlight was traveling by boat to a small settlement in Greenland and experiencing the gigantic icebergs. We also think this is a very good company and are looking forward to another great adventure in 2012. Lynda from Edmonton
I have also travelled with Adventures Abroad several times: to Greek Islands, Egypt, Turkey, India and in less than two weeks will be going to Costa Rica with them. I like the fact that the tours are small ( I never been to one that reached the maximum number of people, which is 20, although i think this next one will be full). The guides are knowledgeable, they have a "no shopping" policy for the local guides, that is, they do not allow local guides to stir tourists to stores where they are trapped in order to buy things", so if travellers want to shop they can do it on their own time. I also like that the tips are included, except for the tour guide himself/herself, therefore you only have to worry about tipping at the very last day of the tour. The prices may be a bit higher than other tour organisers, but when you factor in that two meals (and in some places, even three) are included, that bottled water is also included in most places and all tips are included, and there will not be any "local" charges, then the price is fair.
How was the costa rica trip with Adventures abroad
Hi. Looking at the West Africa trip. We have traveled extensively, but never with this organization. Did you feel there was too much time spent on the road? Sounds like a lot of places in a short time. Any input would be appreciated. Thank you.
Since 1998 I have traveled with Aventures Abroad 7 times Greece/Turkey, Guyana/Suriname/Fr. Guiana, Ecuador, Romania/Bulgaria, Tanzania/Kenya/Zanzibar, West Africa, and the Caucasus (Azerbaijan/Armenia/Georgia. I also plan to go the the Ukraine/Moldova later this year and the Arab Gulf States in 2013. And traveled with other companies probably 26 times. since 1994. AA's tours without exception were all excellent to outstanding. Accomodations, leaders ,itineraries and pre -travel support are outstanding and better than many other adventure companies. West Africa was my best trip with them. It was rough, but all inclusive and the guide, Claude, could not have been better as he designed the trip and has led it many times. We did not spend an inordinate period of time on the road. I highly recommend this trip to anyone who wants an all encompassing view of Mali Senegal, Burkina Faso, Togo,Benin and Ghana.
Edited: 12 years agoThanks for the info. Appreciate thoughts from someone who has traveled with them.
Has anyone taken the tour to the Baltic States and St Petersburg? We are considering it for next year.

Welcome to TA and this forum
However, I would suggest that you might be on the wrong forum?
It might be better to post in the St. Petersburg Forum itself http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowForum-g298507-i707-St_Petersburg_Northwestern_District.html or as a wider one Russia http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowForum-g294459-i705-Russia.html
Edited: 12 years agoeLaReF I smell a bit of a rat with this thread.
We have one person singing the praises of a tour company, who has 3 posts, then we have 4 or 5 people with an equally number of low posts also singing the praises of this company.
What was that song suspicious mind?????
