WiFi egg from Olleh

Hello,

I was told that we can get a WiFi egg from the airport.

Anyone can help with details of this item?

I was told that you need to pay deposit of 150,000 KRW and you pay 8.000 KRW per day for WiFI usage.

Is this for unlimited data download?

Do we need to buy any other device?

Why do you want it? Wifi is free in Seoul in most places.

If you go out into the country, maybe it's worth it, though.

I'll be travelling to a few places outside Seoul.

I also found it convenient when I have wifi on the go, say using google map on the street to see which direction i should walk towards the place i want to go. Places in Seoul that has WIFi are usually in cafe

Check out the KT Olleh website. (roaming.kt.com/renewal/eng/main.asp?channel=)

They have a promotion running at the moment where you get W3000 discount on the daily rate of W8000.

You can pick it up at the airport. They'll take your credit card detail for the deposit. You settle the account when you return the unit. You get fantastic 4G/LTE speed, unlimited data & everyone in your group can share the connection for up to 7 devices.

I used it for email, VOIP & google map on the go (even in subway & taxi). The only downside was the battery didn't last all day & I had to turn it off towards late afternoon in case I needed it in the evening. I imagine the battery issue will be worse during winter.

If you can read a little bit of Korean, Daum or Naver maps on your smartphone can also be useful.

Wow! Great! Thank you so much minibin74.

Will do more research on the link you gave. Looks very good with the promotion.

No problem.

I'll be picking one up as well when I'm there in two weeks.

Yes, but only in Jeju city & Seogwipo areas. Coverage map here (roaming.kt.com/renewal/eng/wibro/rental.asp)

Probably won't be able to use it for Google map while sightseeing.

Hi there,

Tapping on this topic, just like to ask if I need to make local calls, do I have to rent a phone or can I buy the SIM card and insert into my own phone?

What about voice plus data SIM card? Is that better?

The Wifi egg is data only right? Apologies if I'm asking the obvious. Pardon me as I'm quite clueless about all these things.

Appreciate any advice and comments.

Thank you.
