Staying in the airport (RGN) overnight is that allowed?

we are arriving in RGN at 1145 pm and we leave the next day at 630 am to Bagan. Do you know if we can just stay in the airport overnight ? Will they allow us to just sit by the airport overnight? This might be easier than getting a hotel only for a few hours. thanks

Its interesting because I have 2 travel agents tell me that I can stay overnight in the airport

You can stay overnight in the airport for sure, if the staying time does not exceed 8 hours.

I might take this chance and if we get kicked out we can go to either Friendship hotel or Myanmar Life

It is out of date so it would be great if you update it after your trip.

Hi AlexRobin,

Any updates if you were able to stay overnight @ Yangon International Airport?

Could you also share you the travelling from Yangon to Mandalay? How did you go about booking the flight? How much did it cost?

Looking forward to your reply.

Our flights were delayed so we didnt get in till 16 hours later so we actually didnt have to stay overnight in the airport. RGN is a very small airport, when you go past immigration, baggage claim is right there. You go past baggage claim and there is the public waiting area. I dont know if this public waiting area is being closed. There are not a lot of benches in this area, maybe 5-10 but thats it. When you exit the doors from the waiting area, you will find the driveway where all the cabs and vehicles drive up to. It really depends how long your wait is but if the waiting area is closed, here are some options, im assuming you are arriving from the intl terminal.

1. Hang outside the waiting area till they open, its a very safe area, being outside in these ungodly hours is nothing to be worried about here.

2. When you exit turn left and walk to the domestic terminal. If the domestic waiting area is open you can sit by the benches. The domestic area is not as nice as the international terminal since it is very old without any signs of being rehabbed.

3. As you exit the intl terminal from the waiting area, turn left and get out of the gate and cross the street, there you will see a row of restaurants, there maybe one or two that are open really late or 24 hours.

4. Go past the restaurants and you will find Season's hotel, you can try and ask them if you can stay in the lobby for a few hours till the gates open or spend 60 or 70 to book a room. YOu might be able to negotiate esp if you are only staying there for less than 8 hours.

Hope this helps

I was going to add that much of the information can be out of date such as the " extendible for an additional 14 days" and the link for Visas is to a website for VOA which is no longer available!

caveat emptor
