I am in Yangon and have been confined to my hostel for three days with gastroenteritis . I have just been sipping water but probably need some electrolyte beverage .

is there a local variety I can pick up easily from convenience stores ?

Yes you should be able to get something from pharmacy or supermarket, ask your hostel. There is one called Royal-G and various others it seems.

I think there is gatorade and other isotonic drinks at the local stores. There is a local sports drink called 100 plus that I like, it comes in both carbonated and non carbonated varieties. I prefer the latter.

If you can find a pharmacy nearby, it's best to get some Oral Re-hydration Salts. They are a mix of glucose, potassium and sodium in powder form that come in small packets which you open up and mix in water.
