You could get the taxi to take you via the bus station, where there are offices that sell tickets (find a driver that speaks English and knows which company to buy from). It will be quite a detour though (I think the relevant bus station is close to the airport but the traffic around it is terrible) so they might try to charge you a lot. There might be ticket agencies in town but if you want to buy in town, it would be easier to ask the hotel to organise it as soon as you check in - they can get tickets delivered but often charge a small fee. I had no problem getting next-day and even same-day tickets, but that was in October.

aimsley87 - recently I have just pre-booked my ticket via JJ Express FB page for Yangon-Bagan, Mandalay-Taunggy(Inle Lake) and Taunggyi to Yangon segments. Just private message them and they replied quite promptly. They confirmed my ticket and I was also allocated a seat no.

Hi NSEL - how was your experience with JJ Express? I am looking to do the same tour in May: Yangon-Bagan-Inle-Bagan with their new Bagan-Inle service in the middle. I hope!

Hi Sarahnfred - I only managed the Yangon/Bagan segment as I had to terminate my trip midway in Mandalay due to a incident. It's a very comfortable journey. I reached the bus station and paid cash. They took my luggage and wrap in a plastic bag, tag before storing it in the bus luggage compartment. Bus departed on time and was provided a bottle of drink and a snack box. Very Comfortable and clean luxurious leather seat - seat arrangement is single seat at one side and 2 seat at another side. The driver drove at a very safe speed (I watched many other buses 'flying' past us) and there's a change of driver at midway (rest time for driver) Also a stop at midway for toilet and supper break (at Feel eating place) - the place and toilet is very clean too.

I will be going back to Myanmar again and do my Yangon/Taunggyi (Inle)/Yangon in Feb this year, Have emailed JJ bus to book my bus ticket and they have replied asking me to email again nearer the date.

Sarah and fred if you intend to stay overnight in Yangon then prebook your bus at railway station car park and include $1 transfer to bus sttaion. here are all the agents for the buses overnight to Bagan if you arrive afternoon and want to head staright off to Bagan then taxi airport to O mingalar bus station ansd they will take you directt o buses heade ofr Bagan leaving from around 6-9pm most are pretty comfortable and new. To Inle direct to naungshwe from bagan prebook with your hotel (I always stay Naung U) and Inle go to Kalow and take any overnight buses from there ie back to Yangon or if Mandalay there is direct bus 730am or night bus

Is there a possibility to get out at Pyay for a few days If we take the overnight bus from yangon to Bagan ?

And is there a bus from Pyay to Magwe and on to Bagan ?

Or is Magwe not worth stopping for a half day or so ?
