Can anyone shed some light on visa requirements for Myanmar and how to obtain one? I just get confused by all the different websites saying different things!

As you are based in London you can get your visa application form from the Myanmar embassy in London (020 7499 4340, 7493 7397. Fax : 020 7409 7043, 7493 9649 )19A, CHARLES St, LONDON W1J 5DX
The Visa costs £14 plus return postage -postal orders only unless you visit when they will take cash (Although they have taken cheque's from me in the past)
If you drop off your application ,your passport will be returned in 5 days or you can collect it. On the last two occasions mine was returned within 48 hours.
The Visa is valid for 3 months , with a maximum 28 day stay.
Although the form asks for a hotel address in Myanmar, if you have not fixed your accommodation you can put any hotel details- I have never been asked for flight or accommodation confirmation.
Note that airlines flying into Yangon will not let you board without a valid visa.

Visa on Arrival
You can get visa on arrival very easily through a local travel agency. It will take about two weeks and cost US$40-50/pp depends on the agents. You just need to send the following documents to the agent.
1. Full Name (Surname: ,Given Name: )2. Gender 3. Father's name 4. Date of birth 5. Place of birth 6. Nationality 7. Race 8. Religious 9. Passport number 10. Date of issued 11. Date of expired12. place of issued 13. Occupation: 14. Permanent address: 15. Arrival date & flight No. 16. Departure date $ flight No. 17. A copy of passport size picture
Arrival date and flight no. is really important. The agent will apply the visa through Ministry of Hotel & Tourism. When they received approval, they will send a copy to the Airlines for boarding. Then a copy to you for your reference. Let them send the copy which was acknowledge by the airlines.
The agent need to send two copy to the airlines. One for them and the other one to sign and acknowledge that they have already received. If it is Air Asia, they will give you a ref code no.
When you get to the Yangon Airport the agent will wait for you and take care the paper work. It will take about 15 min.
I am not sure whether it is more convenient for you or not. But guaranteed to get Visa on Arrival.
Have a nice visit.

1,168 helpful votes I stand corrected.
There used to be problems with voa but it looks as if it is sorted.
Visa in London sounds cheaper and a better bet.
The Embassy in London is usually quick and efficient.
If this is inconvenient for you, as above, a Myanmar agency can arrange things for you if you give them enough notice.
Getting a Myanmar visa at their embassy in London is peasy-pie. See the following, which I posted not too long ago:
Me and the missus went to London on Monday to apply for our visas.
We'd already received the application forms by e-mail.
We arrived just before opening time at 1000.
We were first there and got served straight away.
Simplicity itself.
No proof of flights, accommodation or itinerary asked for.
Paid the 2 x £14 fee.
We wanted the passports posting to us (we are northerners in voluntary exile in Portsmouth!).
Paid £2 recorded delivery charge.
Left the embassy at about 1010.
Postman Pat knocks on the door at 0930 on Wednesday, less than 48 hours later, with our passports!
Top-tips:
Make sure your photo (x2) is recent.
Try and have the correct money.
Without sounding like I'm nit picking here & just to clarify the above, Myanmar doesn't have a 'Visa On Arrival.'
As KKYM explained, you can get a 'Pre-Arranged Visa' through an agent here, which is arranged before you arrive. Like in certain other Asian countries, visa on arrival is when you arrive at the border of that country, head for the immigration office, buy a visa & then enter, this is not the case with Myanmar.
If you head to the airport in BKK under the impression that you can get a VOA when you arrive in Myanmar you'll be very disappointed, they won't let you on the flight, you need to arrange it before you arrive. As said above, get it from London, it's one of the easiest & hassle free embassies to obtain a visa.
Edited: 10 years agoHi everyone,
If you live in the US, I believe you can send the information to the Myanmar embassy in Washington, DC. We were going to visit Myanmar exactly after the 2008 cyclone happened. We had just sent our passports and information when the cyclone occurred. We had sent the paper work through UPS and they were able to locate the package before it arrived in Washington.
We are finally going to Myanmar, this fall, and I plan to follow the same procedure.
Good morning,
we are traveling to Myanmar in November 2010 and are very confused by the different informations we find on all the web pages and the embassy itself does not seam to have a web page. I have however, downloaded visa application forms from the Canberra Web Page and filled these in. Maybe you know an answer to the following questions:
1.How many passport pictures does the embassy require ?
2.One web page states that the visa is valid x days from issue, is this correct or is the visa valid from date of arrival ?
3.We are staying in 5 different hotels - do I need to give them the addresses for all the Hotels or is the Hotel Name good enough ? (I dont think the addresses would all fit on the form).
Your help would be greatly appreciated.
Kind Regards
I've always told friends & family to send in 3 application forms & 3 photographs but I believe that 2 of each is sufficient, I'm sure one of the UK based posters here can clarify that.
Once your visa is issued you have to enter the country within 3mths, once you enter the country your visa is valid for a 28 day visit.
Just the name of the first hotel that you'll be staying at will suffice, if you have the address you can chuck it on the form for good measure but it's not important.
See this thread:

I just entered the first hotel we were staying at.
There was a question about currency. I think I just stuck in US$2,000.
The visa is valid for 3 months from DATE OF ISSUE.
If you live close enough to London then it's worth applying in person.
