Launching new railway service between Yangon - Bagan is a good step for tourism promotion . Especially it helps lots of budget traveler's who wanna move slowly from one place to another.

As the schedule of railway department ,this shuttle service will be running daily between Bagan and Yangon.

Yangon - Bagan

ETD 4 pm - ETA 8 am ( 16 hr )

Bagan - Yangon

ETD 8:30 am - ETA 4:30 am ( 16 hr )

I've seen the coaches in Bagan station it seem better than the other runner of Yangon - Mandalay express.

Three different classes are first class 30 USD , upper class 40 USD and 50 USD for sleeper per person.

Upper class is comfortable and restaurant and bar is very reasonable price .

This new line favor you a grate chance to visit Pyay , AungLan ,

Magway of non touristic towns .

Pyay ( Historic site of 3 - 6 AD )

Aung Lan ( beautiful market )

Magway ( The gate way to Shwesattaw WR and MraukU )

Helpful during peak season for budget travelers.

But please tell in advance " I'll be late ".

Thanks to the original poster letting me know about this railway service. Let me report that I was indeed able to get the ticket for USD 50 (sleeper car) to Bagan on the day itself.

For future people intending to do so, facing the station, head towards the right hand side entrance (there are 2 entrances) and go to the very first counter you will see on your left. While the ticket said 4pm it only left at 5pm and arrived in Bagan at 10am the next day.A plate of fried rice and coke cost me 2900 Kyts. The sleeper bed was a little hard to sleep on but at least you get some privacy and your own cabin.

To get to your platform, now go to the left hand side entrance and look for the bridge that crosses all the platform. You will see your platform number on the signs while you are walking across the bridge.

The view was magnificent and eating and getting on the train with the rest of the Burmese people was great. While some train attendants put too much unwanted attention on me (single female traveler), a few of them were genuinely helpful and made sure to point me out to the Bagan stop and even helped me arrange transport to Nyaung U. There will be touts in the trainstation so dont let your guard down all completely.

It was a great train and I would do it all over again if I could.

Thank you for update feedback. Train travel between Yangon - Bagan and Yangon - Mandalay sectors seem better than 2 years ago.

As my experienced, upper class reclining seats are better for long distance.

Meet locals, cheap ,easy to walk restaurant car.

Not perfect comfort , but simple way to travel.

Except , Yangon to Mandalay and Bagan , the other tracks are in poor condition for tourists.

Let us hear more about this article from recent travelers.
