Port Vila Questions

Hi Everyone,

Just have a couple of questions about our impending trip to Port Vila! (Squeaaaal!!)

We are staying at Mangoes and would like to know the best supermarket and bottle shop nearby.

Also, where is the best place to get money out? Happy to use an ATM somewhere.

If anyone has any must see or do suggestions, that would be great...

Thanks, Hannah

Just walk to Au Bon Marche at Numbatu (No2) like Woolies….or Leader Price like Aldi ...about a 15 minute stroll. They have all the things you are after including ATMs (but you are best to bring AUD and change it to avoid bank fees).

There is also a corner shop closer but it won't sell alcohol except maybe beer (get directions from Mangoes is easiest).

Have a look at the Things To Do link at the top of this page to get an idea whats available.

Have fun!

Hi. I am sure you will enjoy Port Vila. Agree with previous post that it's cheaper to take your cad and change it in town.

Also if you are looking at getting a taxi for any days then try Roy on +678 5476028. Good pricing for the day and very knowledgable . He even took us to his village to meet his family and show us how they lived. That itself was a humbling experiance. Cheers

Money wise -There are plenty of ANZ money machines around Vila.and an anz branch right in town. There are also several "money changers" who will convert AU to Vatu.

A strong suggestion on this front=Make yourself up a quick conversion chart based on the current exchange rate. so for example 1000vatu=$12.5 au $10 au =800 vatu etc. 10000 vatu = $125 au

(This isn't the exchange rate I just made up the numbers)

You only need about 10 but it makes working how much stuff costs easy when you are there

I agree re Le Bon Marche--We found the one up on the hill to be better/nicer.

-A heads up -Sunday you can't buy takeaway booze from memory from 5.0pm saturday

Stuff to do-Well theres this cool website called Trip advisor and... :-)

-Sorry couldn't resist.

Ok-starting with just on the seawall.

Take a discover scuba dive with Big Blue Vanuatu

Go for a ride on a ZEGO-which is the best way to see the harbour IMO

Try an underwater scooter.

Then

Try ziplining.

Take a drive in the mudbuggies.

Head out to the underwater post office

Take a daytrip to iririki and try cat sailing.

Theres some ideas to kick you off.

-i'll be there next trip at the end of september .

Hi,

Just keep in mind also if there are any cruise liners in port during your stay. The place will be buzzing if a ship is in port.

The cascade waterfalls are amazing when there are no crowds on cruise days. We had the place to ourselves & felt like our little piece of heaven. Same with other attractions such as Blue Lagoon, and Eton Beach.

Have a great trip,

Karen
