Itinerary help

Hi,

Is it best to get to Uyuni or Tupiza from Calama Chile? In SPA just now and plan to leave here Thursday or Friday. I hear its cheaper to do the salt flats from Tupiza ?

So the plan is 4 weeks in Bolivia. It's nice to visit the cities, but much prefer little towns and villages. Any help would be great on places or things to do in Bolivia. The must do's are salt flats and Amazon basin.

Ok here go's. There is a lot on here and trying not to move around too much as it would be nice to relax. Any suggestions on narrowing it down or adding is welcome . Or how long

Calama chile

Tupiza

Salt flats

Uyuni

Potosi

Sucre

La Paz (buy amazon tickets)

Coroico (road of death)

Sorata??

Lake titicaca

Then onto Peru .

Thanks

Sheryl

Hi Sheryl,

We just did a similar trip more or less in the opposite direction. Here is a link to our blog which gives a lot of detail …travelpod.com/travel-blog/…tpod.html Bolivia starts @ # 22.

I would highly recommend Madidi for your Amazon fix ( Madidi Jungle Ecolodge were great and good value).

We did Uyuni from Tupiza and were glad we did as we seemed to miss most of the crowds as we appeared yo be going in the opposite direction to most jeeps on the circuit. Not sure which is easier to reach from Calama as we went via Argentina.

We just passed through Potosi but didn't really like the look of the place ( perhaps we missed the best bits ,)

Sucre was a pleasant surprise. Nice architecture and the best food in Bolivia. Liked it so much we stayed around for a few extra days.

Thank you. Doesn't look like I will be able to get to Tupiza from Calama and the buses only leave on certain days to uyuni grrrr. Still researching that one with not much info to go of.

Thanks for the tip on the amazon basin. Did you fly there from La Paz or do the bus ride ?

We went flew to Santa Cruz and by bus from their to Trinidad and then flew to Rurrenabaque. Big mistake! The best way is to fly from LP direct to Rurre. Flights are relatively cheap in Bolivia compared to the rest of SAPA. The overnight bus journey from LP takes around 18 hours and is not the most comfortable journey in the world. Amaszonas has the best schedules but TAM may be cheaper.

We bought tickets in La Paz and in Rurrenabaque. There are Amaszonas and. Tam offices all over La Paz and most hostels will buy the tickets for you at no charge. The prices didn't seem to vary much even if you bought a couple of days before. We had no problems getting flights.

Madidi jungle Ecolodge were really good but you do need to book in advance! a couple of weeks should be enough.
