Punta del Este vs. Florianopolis... trying to pick one... !

Hello,

I am travelling to BA at the end of February with two friends. We are looking for a beach destination to compliment the city (BA) portion of our two week S.America vacation.

We're having a hard time deciding between Punta del Este and Florianopolis Brazil. From what I've read, Punta is the St.Tropez/Hamptoms of S.America, and it's no longer the hot spot... and Florianopolis is the Ibiza of S.America and hot hot hot!

We're in our early 30s, and are looking for beautiful beaches, good food, culture and nightlife.

Any comments?

Looks like you read the piece in the NY Times a few days ago.

In late February, Punta will already have quieted down too much for you; you would not find what you want. I don't know about Florianapolis, but presumably it will still be going strong. Also, the water's warmer there.
